'What Now?'
|
By Adam Reid
Clients who come to Back2Health strictly to undergo a MedX lower back program typically feel 'cured' after 12-16 weeks. Some people need more or less exposure based on a number of factors (severity of injury, age, etc.), but we've discovered that this time frame works well and is corroborated as 'average' within MedX literature.
The question often asked to us after this 12-16 week period is 'what now?' Our goal is certainly to get a client pain free as quickly as possible, but also to keep him or her pain free. This means some sort of maintenance will be necessary. The interesting thing about the lumbar muscles - unlike any other muscles in the body - is that they gain strength rapidly under the right circumstances (i.e., regular exercise on MedX Lumbar machine), yet also keep the majority of it for a good length of time.
Not forever, however. Whether 'a good length of time' means 6 months, a year, or more, is not predictable and needs to be viewed on a case by case basis. As with any other body part, although on a different scale due to exercise response, there is a 'use it or lose it' aspect to consider.
Because of this, and if weekly sessions are not feasible for whatever reasons, we recommend either bi-weekly or once-monthly sessions at the completion of the initial 3-4 month program. These infrequent 'check-ups' should keep the user pain free for as long as they have access to the MedX machine.
