Marketing Insider

Greetings!

First of all, thank you all for the positive responses we received from the first newsletter. We're pleased that you find the information useful.

This month we're continuing to roll out new ads, print new marketing pieces and provide information to a variety of trade publications.

In addition, we have recently increased our involvement with the U.S. Green Building Council. While we have been an active member for some time, Towanda Long has joined the Advocacy Committee of the Charlotte chapter and will be helping the organization advocate for green building regulations in the area. It's an exciting team and she looks forward to contributing.

As always, if you'd like more information on this or any of the items included in this newsletter, we'd love to chat further.

Thank you,

Marketing Department

Duke Smart Home Uses Charlotte Pipe's Cast Iron

Duke's Smart Home is a dynamic "living laboratory" that provides students practical hands-on engineering outside of the classroom. Completed in 2007, and certified as a LEED Platinum building, ten students reside in the home each semester, living with the benefits and consequences of their technology design and deployment decisions.

The home also serves as "lab central," supporting research for 40 to 50 additional students each semester. Interdisciplinary student teams, including a principal engineer and multiple students from different academic disciplines, are used.

As a sponsor, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company contributed cast iron pipe and fittings. According to Tom Rose, Account Executive for Verity Asset Management, the recycled content (100% post-consumer) played a large role in the team choosing cast iron.

And while there are no direct LEED points for plumbing materials, cast iron can contribute to points. Some of these contributions include:
  • Sustainable sites (SS) Credit 5.1: Since cast iron requires narrower trenching, it protects the native environment from disturbance around the construction site.
  • Materials and Resources (MR) Credit 2.1 & 2.2:  Any unused pipe and/or fittings can be sold, diverting it from landfills.
  • Materials and Resources (MR) Credit 3.1 & 3.2: Cast iron systems can be reused.
  • Materials and Resources (MR) Credit 4.1 & 4.2: Cast Iron Soil Pipe and Fittings are produced from 100% recycled content.
  • Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit 4.1: No adhesives or sealants are required for installation.

This Old House Brooklyn Project Chooses Charlotte Pipe's Cast Iron Pipes and Fittings

Beginning on March 28th, viewers of This Old House will see our cast iron pipes and fittings in the season premiere. The episode highlights the renovation of a Brooklyn Brownstone.

In the basement, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, a long-time, loyal Charlotte Pipe customer, meets electrical contractor Vinny Verderosa for a look at how the new service is set up for a three-family house.  Trethewey also meets local plumbing and heating contractor Randy Gitli for a look at the mechanical room, which contains two complete systems, one for the ground floor apartment, and another for the top three floors. Find more information on the episode and scheduled air dates here.

Suggestifications Targets Value Engineering

Suggestifications Ad

"Suggestifications" discourages contractors from value engineering projects by substituting plastic for cast iron products.

The ad reminds them that engineers give specifications because plumbing materials are precisely designed and manufactured to be the best for certain applications.

ChemDrain Ad Gets Updated Message

ChemDrain AdWhile our previous ads introduced ChemDrain, our new ad highlights its use at top universities, research and medical facilities, and more.
