Create a Life
          you Love

            October 27, 2009
Greetings!

I am due to return home to New York from Shanghai today, a 21st century city, that inspires the wildest science fiction.  Thirty years ago, the cityscape was much different, the way of life, the expectations, families, economy, education, dress codes, everything - were totally different.

yin yangMy question is how can we manage change that happens so fast? It's all about balance - there's good and bad in every change.  We all have virtues and a shadow side.  We need to consider what's valuable about traditional ways of doing things, and to create new patterns if we think we can do better. What anchor can we secure that keeps us steady through such turbulent storms.

In a country as crowded as China - 1.3. billion people, compared to about 300 million in the U.S.A. which is about the same size - people must adapt to others around them.  They don't have the wide open space, the frontier, that Americans have.  Daniel Boone, American pioneer went west because he wanted "elbow room."  The Chinese people are used to moving in smaller circles.

The space that opens up for anyone who wants it, is the infinite inner space.  There we have freedom that is unlimited.  That inner core is the anchor that is steady no matter how much our boat is rocked. And that looking inward is the basis of the creative life, and of being at peace with your life, which is the first step in creating the life you desire.

See below for the practice that most creative people share, and an affirmation.

Be well,
Janet

What readers say about Affirmations for Creativity
Almost all creative people do this

In my creativity talk for college students in Xi'an China - Awaken your creativity and reach your full potential! - I spoke about thre research into the traits common to creative people conducted by Fred Pryor of Career Track.  The most important trait shared by creative people is that they believe they are creative (see last week's issue in the archive below).

The second most important trait creative people share is that they cultivate an inner life.

Here is an affirmation from my book on creativity:

"I cultivate my inner life."

Jim Reading, a painting by Janet LuongoThere are so many ways to do this: reading, keeping journals, spending time looking at beauty, listening to music, meditating, taking long walks in nature recording your dreams, paint, do yoga, fix things, arrange flowers, invent something new - whatever it is that tunes you in to the inner voice that makes you unique and connects you to the rest of the universe.  That is the creative energy we all share.  Fiind a way to tap into it a little more deeply this week and see how the rest of your life will benefit.
