SAIS-SACS Accreditation Visit a Success
A team of five educators from independent schools throughout the southeast completed their three-day accreditation visit to Athens Academy on Tuesday, November 15. After reviewing the school's report and other documents, observing classes and activities, and interviewing students, parents, faculty and staff members, trustees, and long-range planning leaders, the team delivered its preliminary findings before departing on Tuesday afternoon. Although the report must ultimately be approved by the SAIS Accreditation Committee and will not be available until January, the team's chair, Don Berger, Head of School at Cary Academy in Cary, NC, announced that Athens Academy is in full compliance with all of the standards and indicators set forth by SAIS and that the team's recommendation for the school to receive accreditation for the next five years was unanimous.
Other commendations included the strength and breadth of Athens Academy's long-range planning process, the school's overall culture of openness and continuous improvement, the passion exhibited each day by the faculty, staff, and students; and the integration of nature and the arts throughout our campus. We look forward to sharing more of the team's commendations and recommendations once the final report is available. Thanks once again to the team for their time, energy, and expertise, and thanks to everyone who made their visit such a success.
