 2011-2012 Preschool and Lower School Announcement As we prepare for the 2011-2012 school year and the opening of the new Arts and Preschool Center, I am pleased to announce our administrative team for the Preschool/Lower School. Interim Preschool/Lower School Director: Melton Weekley, current Preschool Director, will serve as the Interim Preschool/Lower School Director. Melton is finishing her third year as Preschool Director, following six years as Mr. Urich's assistant in the Pre- and Lower Schools. She came to Athens Academy from Savannah Country Day School, where she served for ten years in various positions including kindergarten, third, and fourth grade teacher and assistant principal. Her experience will serve the Academy well next year as she works with students, faculty, and parents. More... |

Seniors to Graduate on Sunday, May 29
 Graduation for the Class of 2011, Athens Academy's 41st graduating class, will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held for graduates and their families, friends, classmates, and teachers. The night before graduation, the 85 seniors and their families are invited to the annual Vespers Service, also be held at the Classic Center. The service, which begins at 6:00 p.m., honors the graduates and their accomplishments. Following the service, graduates and parents are invited to enjoy a dinner hosted by the junior class. Congratulations to the winners of the
2011 Pursuit of Excellence Awards!
Each faculty/staff member will receive a stipend to explore an area of interest for personal growth.
Betsy Billmayer (2nd Grade) will continue to explore her hobby of jewelry making by taking classes to learn more advanced techniques and purchasing specialized materials and equipment.
Carrie Olson (MS Counselor) will train for and participate in the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon this summer as a way of paying tribute to her mother who is currently battling cancer.
Drew Brantley (6th Grade Science) will work with friends and family to create a large garden including a greenhouse so that he can provide fresh vegetables for his family throughout the year. Combining his love of science with his love of the outdoors,
Patty Keith (Learning Resource Coordinator) will fly thirteen hours this summer (leaving North America for the first time in her life) to visit her son John, a Fulbright scholar and 2005 Academy graduate who is teaching English on the island of Jeju off the coast of South Korea.
