AROUND THE DINNER TABLE
The habits, skills, and attitudes that our students are developing today will determine their ability, willingness, and confidence to be successful participants in activities in later life. One of the important areas for development is the productive participation with others in a discussion.
When asked what experiences he attributed to his development of the essential qualities for participating in discussions, the now deceased former mayor of Atlanta Maynard Jackson said, "It began around the dinner table." Upon reflection, one can readily recognize the possibilities in such a family gathering. It is a safe and loving environment where preschoolers through upper schoolers can express themselves and receive the guiding comments and questions of insightful, experienced adults. Read more...
