Youth Orchestra Brazilian Musicians on Campus
 Next Week!

The student musicians of São Paulo, Brazil's Orquestra Pão de Açúcar are arriving in Athens on Sunday, when they will begin their stays with Athens Academy families next week.  This touring string orchestra, which is comprised of musicians ages 13-21, will perform on Monday, October 4, as the opener of the 2010-11 Guest Artist Series.  The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Presentation Hall, and tickets may be purchased at the door ($10/adults, $2/students, $25/season passes).

Steve Penley Creates Collages with
Pre- and Lower School

 
Popular artist and author Steve Penley will visit the Athens Academy Pre- and Lower Schools on Friday, October 1, to meet with students and complete works to be auctioned at the Spartan Spectacular.
 
Pre- and Lower School classrooms will each create a 30" x 30" canvas collage which will be "finished" and signed by Mr. Penley. Each child will have a part in the creation of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The artwork will be on display in the Lower School the week of October 4.

Raffle tickets for each collage are $10 each (with a limit of 10 tickets per adult). Tickets blanks will be sent home with students or can be downloaded here. The winning tickets will be drawn at the Spartan Spectacular on Sunday, October 10.  Don't miss this opportunity to get a piece of art from this famous Georgian and your very own young artist!  

As a special treat for the Lower School, Steve Penley will visit with the children at this Friday's assembly!
