 Yamaha Performing Artist to Visit Athens Academy
The Fine Arts Department is excited to welcome Yamaha
Performing Artist Dr. John Pursell to Athens Academy
in late March. Dr. Pursell is retired
from his position as the Senior Ceremonial Trumpeter with the United States Air
Force after over 20 years of service.
In
this capacity, he performed throughout the United
States and in 11 foreign countries, as well as for presidents,
foreign heads of state, and other dignitaries at the White House, Capitol,
Pentagon, and Arlington
National Cemetery. On the first anniversary of September 11, his
performance of Taps at the crash site of Flight 93 in Shanksville,
Pennsylvania, moved the President of the United States to comment,
"beautiful...just beautiful." More...
