Service Day 2009
 Ten years ago, Athens
Academy student Jessica
Tarleton was disappointed by the number of kids her age who were involved in
volunteering and service. During her
senior year in 2000, she proposed a school-sponsored day of service as a way to
get 100% of the Upper
School involved in
planning and executing their own service projects-and so, Service Day was born.
On November 20, Athens
Academy will hold its
eleventh Service Day.
On Wednesday, November 11, student leaders will present the many options for
volunteering, from visiting with the elderly, raising money for the homeless shelter,
serving Thanksgiving dinner at the Salvation Army, or working with Special
Olympians. No matter what project the students take part in on
November 20, they will all be giving back to the community while learning the
incredible rewards to be found in helping others!
