From the Office of the Vice Principal

It has been an extraordinary summer to be at Catholic Memorial School! Outside the windows of

Dr. James Keane '82

the administrative wing, we've heard CM growing every day. Six different work crews have been working on campus since the end of school in June.

On one side of the Main Building, tractors have been shifting dirt, turf, and pavement in order to complete new state-of-the-art athletic facilities.

In front of the school, extensive renovations of 51 Gardner Street are preparing a new home for the Christian Brothers who will return to CM's campus this fall. In the Ronald Perry Gymnasium, new bleachers, a new ceiling and windows as well as other exterior changes have given the "Ronnie," and the front of the school, a whole new look. In the classroom wing, two new science labs are being constructed as well as a new Conference Room that will be used for some world language and Advanced Placement classes.

Students, parents, alumni and staff will all notice these important upgrades to our facility, but other changes...[read more]

Remembering Francis

The Francis McInerney '12 Scholarship was begun this June after the tragic death of junior Francis McInerney. Thanks to the devoted support of his friends and family and the efforts of Catholic Memorial alumni in the community, this fund will help our school remember Francis in a very special way for years to come.

At the 10th annual West Roxbury PINCH Awards on September 10, Francis's memory will be honored by the organization, People in Neighborhoods Can Help. Founded in 2002 by Frank Sullivan, PINCH recognizes exemplary individuals in the community with its annual award. This year's recipients include Michael Woodall P'10 '12.

Proceeds from the event will go directly into the Catholic Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Francis. For more information, contact the PINCH Foundation at (617)-838-7362.

Reeves to the Nittany Lions

Armani Reeves '12 made it official on Friday morning that he'll play for Penn State. The senior cornerback for CM became the fourth verbal commit to a Division I school this year, joining A.J. Doyle, Donovan Henry and Cam Williams, who will play for NC State, BC and Penn State, respectively.

reeves

The decision was not an easy one, Reeves told a packed conference room on Friday morning, where his coaches, family and the media listened intently. Having visited a dozen or more colleges, Reeves had narrowed his decision down to Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State. In the end, the decision was one of academics.  "I want to study computer science...I felt like that fit me the best out of any school," he said...[read more]

Postcard from Sligo

Catholic Memorial's Irish Studies Program headed to Ireland this June. The group of 7th through 11th graders spent ten days studying in Sligo, touring the countryside and, in the words of Br. Cavet, "drinking enough tea to float another Spanish Armada into Sligo Bay."

They studied Yeats from a classroom window that overlooked Innisfree, heard first-hand accounts of the Bloody Sunday massacre, contemplated the beauties of Connemara, and learned hurling from local athletes...[read more]
