| Two silver keys
Junior Jack England twice-honored by Globe Scholastic Art Awards
When Jack England '12 returned from his school trip to Eastern Europe last spring, he showed his art teacher Ann Malachowski his photos.
Immediately, two photos, taken at the Birkenau concentration camp, jumped out to her as exemplary. "I couldn't decide between them," Malachowski recalls, "but I knew he should submit them to the Scholastic competition. I just saw them and knew they had that je-ne-sais-quoi."
Both of England's photos, judged separately and anonymously by a panel of Globe and Scholastic art critics and art teachers, won Silver Key awards last week, as did work by Philip Hong '11, pictured left. Read more...

Guidance for juniors and parents
"This May, your son will take the SAT exam," Dr. James Keane '82 told an assembly parents of juniors on February 11. "It is a difficult test, and it is an important test for your son, but it does not determine whether or not he will ever think an original thought, do productive research in graduate school, or be happy or successful in life. The SAT determines, quite simply, how well your son can take the SAT." Along with advice like that from CM's administrative and guidance staff, director Bob Tegan also took parents and juniors through the College Process Handbook, offering them concrete examples, time-tested tips and plenty of reassurance. A reminder for junior parents: registration forms for the Princeton Review are due by this Friday, February 18. Click here to download the form. |

On retreat with the eighth grade class
After their Campus Ministry retreat on February 4, three eighth graders took some time to reflect on what they'd done that day. Here's what Jack Binda '15 had to say.
What was the most useful piece of advice you heard today about high school? That no matter where you go you can get a good education, but CM is a good, small community where everyone looks out for you.
Which of the speakers who spoke today would you want to be most like four years from now? Garrett, because he has a 99.99 grade point average but still plays two varsity sports.
What's the first thing you'd tell a 7th grader about today? That we had a lot of fun, it was a good day. What sets the Class of 2015 apart from other classes? We have a lot of spirit, and a lot of smart people.
