From the Guidance Department
Although seniors are still sifting through their recent college acceptances, trying to make good decisions, one thing is perfectly clear: colleges want our students! The class of 2010 has choices from all over America. Mr. Bob Tegan, Director of Guidance |
In the far west: the University of Southern California, Loyola Marymount and Arizona State lead the way. The midwest was very popular with this year's graduating class: University of Illinois, Loyola of Chicago, Marquette, DePaul, Purdue, Xavier, and the University of Chicago are all looking to enroll our seniors.
The mid-Atlantic and south regions also held great interest for our students: Clark Atlanta, Duke, Elon, Loyola University Maryland, the Universities of Maryland and South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Wake Forest, Morehouse, George Mason, George Washington, Lynchburg, Catholic University and American University. Pennsylvania was very popular this year, with Gettysburg, Carnegie Mellon, St. Joseph University, Villanova, Temple, and the University of Pittsburgh all accepting CM seniors.
Despite the sports rivalry between Boston and the evil empire, the New York-New Jersey area is another very popular choice for higher education among our seniors. Drew, Canisius, Fordham, Iona, Seton Hall, Siena, Stevens Institute, Hofstra, St. John's, Union, Syracuse, and SUNY Albany all accepted our students. Although located in Connecticut, Sacred Heart and Fairfield are...[read more]

One final gift: The Senior Service Project
For five years, the ultimate act of CM's senior class has been the Senior Service Project, which has become a great way for seniors to give back to their communities through a minimum of 40 hours of community service at over a hundred different sites in and around the city.

Here are a few things that site supervisors are saying about this year's seniors:
"Our patients are enjoying their time with these fine young men. They are all gentlemen and CM should be proud of them." ~John Huether, VA Hospital, West Roxbury
"The CM boys have a very nice temperament, and we need that here!" ~Karyn Strandberg, Mather School, Dorchester
"They are a good representation of CM, and I think they will have an enjoyable 6-7 weeks here." ~Alphonso Westley, Partners Health Care, Boston

By all appearances, few visitors to CM could tell that on the previous evening, a crowd of hundreds had been transported to the French revolution through Victor Hugo's memorable characters. It took months of rehearsals, a new stage and sound system, and the dedication of a cast and crew of fifty students from five schools to put the show on, and director and CM Arts Chair Craig Spaner was "blown away" by the results...[read more]
