Receptions in the Sunshine State
Last week, two alumni receptions in Florida brought together alumni from throughout the sunshine state. On March 24, alumni gathered at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale, hosted by Jack '63 and Carolyn Mulhern.
On March 28, alumni gathered in Naples, Florida at the home of Jack '64 and Nancy Cleary. Both occasions provided President Paul Sheff '62 and Advancement Director Doug Zack with an opportunity to update alumni on recent CM accomplishments.

President's Holiday: April 5
In recognition of Catholic Memorial
School's extraordinary efforts in collecting for the missions over this
Lenten season (far surpassing the missions collections of previous
years), and in celebration of the school earning the honor as one of
Mass General Hospital's "The One Hundred" this spring, President Paul
Sheff '62 appeared on CMTV last week to announce a President's
Holiday for April 5.
"I know you do what you do for others because that is the CM way,"
Sheff told the students. "Not because you will be rewarded in some
fashion, but because it is the right thing to do. And it is.
Nevertheless, I want to recognize what all of you have done, to thank
you for being so generous with your time and resources."
As a result, there will be no classes this coming Monday, giving students and families an extended Easter weekend!

Reflecting on the Missions during Lent
This year, CM's homeroom collection for the Missions is taking place only during Lent. Earlier in the Lenten season, Sean Donovan '14 offered these reflections about the missions on CMTV.
Last year I participated in the BERSI trip to El Salvador, a country that has felt the sting of poverty for countless years, being the poorest country in Latin America. The trip made a huge impace on my life in a few different ways. I saw people who had nothing but the clothes on their backs. People living in shacks the sizes of sheds, and also people suffering of malnutrition.
The preschool that we visited was one of the most memorable experiences for me. When we got there, I couldn't believe all of the smiling faces on the kids. If you compare their lifestyle to ours...[read more]

Don't Miss Les Mis April 14
CM's most dramatic talents take the stage for the spring musical on April 14 at 7pm in the Perry Gym for Les Miserables (School Edition - In Concert). Tickets are $5.
"This will be an all-student production by students who have taken musicals to another level at CM," said director Mr. Spaner during rehearsals last week. "They have embodied their characters through months of hard work and given the music of Les Mis extra meaning for me. The play is a love story--it teaches us that 'to love another person is to see the face of God.' I can't think of a better musical to perform by this group of talented singers and actors."
There will only be one performance--on April 14 at 7pm. Be sure to mark your calendars! Click on the video above for a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals for the show.

Matthew McCarthy '13 wins Globe's Will McDonough Writing Contest

At the Boston Garden on March 31, McCarthy was honored during halftime for his winning fictional entry, which he wrote in Mr. Croteau's English 9 class...[read more]
