The Poet, the Rent, and the Drama Club
Catholic Memorial's players in the CM Drama club is presenting award-winning playwright David Mamet's The Poet and the Rent on
Thursday and Friday, November 12-13, at 7pm in the Perry Gymnasium.
Also debuting for the club will be "The Audition," a short one-act play.

News in Brief
THE 1ST ANNUAL VIBM awards, named for the school motto--"Vince in Bono Malum"--were awarded to Jack Cleary '64, Frank Doyle '66, Richard Ring '64, and Peter Trovato '00 on November 4 at the annual President's Society Dinner at the Copley Marriott. Awards were given in the categories of professional achievement and community service. The fall issue of CM Magazine will have full coverage of the event and honorees.
KNIGHTS WRITE: The first issue of the Knight Insight came off the press on November 1--the virtual press, that is. Students can now view the student newspaper online from any school computer via the school's shared network. In other literary news, authors Bill Martin '68, Charles Kenney '68, and Boston poet laureate Sam Cornish will judge this fall's Picturing America Contest--click here for more information.
THE MA STATE HOCKEY COACHES have announced that they will induct head hockey coach Mr. Bill Hanson and interim assistant athletics director Mr. James Cerbo into the MA State Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the Class of 2010 induction ceremony on May 6.
ALERT: A CM family recently received a check from a fraudulent organization with a check memorandum "Financial Aid." The check was mailed in a UPS Express shipment and had an official appearance. Please note, Catholic Memorial does not send checks to families who receive financial aid. Depositing unsolicited checks from an unknown source is a risk. Always verify the source and terms related to randomly received checks prior to depositing.

CM Alumni: News and Notes
Michael Collins '07, currently playing alongside Garrett Noonan '09 for the Vernon Vipers, was named British Columbia Hockey League player of the week on October 20.

and his wife Kelli are proud to announce the arrival of Joseph Shannon Conroy, born on November 3-7lbs 13 oz. and 21 inches long.
Skip Lockwood '64 is the subject of a new book, Major League Bride: An Inside Look at Life Outside the Ballpark.
Joe Walsh '97 was awarded the 2009 Edgar P. McCormack and Marguerita A. McCormack Scholarship on October 22 at Suffolk University Law School. The award was established by Michael McCormack '64 in memory of his father.

CM's Cross Country team heads to states this Saturday at Franklin Park. Senior captain Ed Colvin '10 will lead the Knights against Division II competition.
CM Soccer earned a 7th-seed in the Division I South tournament after an outstanding 12-3-3 regular season. On Nov. 8 they defeated Weymouth in the second round, and on Nov. 11 they upset #2-seed Greater New Bedford on the road. CM Football finishes the season with two Catholic Conference matchups: at Xaverian this Sunday, 11/15 at 1pm and hosting BC High on Thanksgiving morning at 10:30am.
Reminder: Physicals are due this coming Tuesday, November 17, for all winter sports' athletes.
We need your help! The 48th annual Turkey Bowl game will be held at home this year and volunteers are needed. The game is scheduled for Thanksgiving morning: November 26, 10:30am. Parents and friends can volunteer for a variety of jobs. There will be an organizational meeting ahead of game day. Contact Sue Sullivan in the Athletics Office at 617-469-8061 for more information.

and start your holidays early. Each person will make a wreath for their
home and enjoy the company of friends at a wine and cheese social. Attendance is limited, so reply early. The cost

For the past several years the Parent Council has held a coffee for parents to get together and meet each other in an informal setting. If has been a great success and we would like it to become an annual event. Please join us on Friday, December 4, 2009, in the Resource Room at the middle school.

November Guidance Update
Freshman Notes
By the time you receive this newsletter you may have received your
first CM high school report card. Parents are encouraged to contact
their son's guidance counselor if they have academic concerns. Second
quarter of 9th grade has the greatest impact on cumulative grade point average in all of high school!
NEDT results will be explained and returned to all freshmen before
Christmas. They will be told to share the results with parents. But,
oddly, they may need a reminder.

Profiles in Service
Campus Ministry continues its series of student reflections from seniors as they begin their work with the Senior Service Project.
Jon Lott '10 is doing his Senior Service Project with Chris Cares, Inc., a non-profit that works on sustainable development. Here's why:
"Several years ago, my mother journeyed to Tanzania to do volunteer service with the Masai people.
After experiencing the faith of the local men and women, she committed herself to aiding them in the construction of a much needed church. She began to collect money for her project back home in the States. To help in this effort, she sold imported jewelry and other hand-made goods made by the Masai in Tanzania. The profits were then used to help build a church..."[read more]

Forensics on top again as season begins
Both the high school and middle school speech and debate teams are off and running this fall already, with students in
grades seven through twelve earning high praise across the state.
At the Dighton-Rehoboth High School "Fall Fest" Forensics Tournament on October 24, the team earned a 3rd place team trophy. Sixteen Catholic Memorial students
broke into the final rounds to win individual awards, including Kevin
