CM Open House: This Sunday, 1-3pm
This Sunday afternoon, Catholic Memorial School opens its doors to prospective students and parents for its annual Open House. Thanks to the word-of-mouth efforts of our alumni, parents, students and friends, CM's Open House is a success each year. We Made Strides!

CM Alumni: News and Notes
David Costello '80 is currently serving as Director of Sales Operations for Staples in Broomfield, CO.
Jason Ford '97 is currently studying Spanish at the Maryknoll Mission Center in Cochabamba, Bolivia, before beginning work with the Christian Brothers and their ministry to children and young adults living in the streets of Cochabamba.
Tom Geoghegan '65 is curently working as Associate Dean for Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
Ernie Handy '69 has devoted 29 years of his career to the Massachusetts Trial Court, Probation
Services. Currently, he is the Assistant Chief Probation Officer at Norfolk
Superior Court in Dedham.
Grant McGrail '02 graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 2006. He is currently working in software sales for OpenAir, Inc.

Chipping in for CM
A full field of 140 golfers came together on September 28 to benefit CM scholarships in the 23rd Annual CM Golf Tournament. Held at Walpole Country Club, the tournament was a great success, netting over $46,000 for scholarships at Catholic Memorial School.

CM's Alumni Mentoring Program
When
J.J. Wellemeyer '02 returned to CM for a young alumni reception in the spring
of 2007, he expected to reconnect with classmates, share a few laughs,
and reminisce about his days at CM. However, he did not expect to discuss
his career and secure an important internship with a local judge.
Wellemeyer,
who was finishing his first year at Suffolk Law School at the time,
happened to meet Sean Cannon, a 1998 CM graduate and Suffolk Law graduate
who is now in private practice. During their conversation, JJ mentioned
that he was tirelessly seeking an internship for the upcoming summer to
gain valuable legal experience. Sean explained his experience working

Profiles in Service
This month, Campus Ministry begins its series of student reflections from seniors as they begin their work with the Senior Service Project.
John Reid-Roberts '10 is doing his Senior Service Project at Childrens' Hospital. Here's why.
"Once, when I was five, my cousin and I
were playing around my grandfather's dump truck. We wanted to climb in
but the tailgate was up, so my cousin decided to let it down. As he
pulled the chain, the force of the tailgate crushed my head into the
metal license plate area. I was immediately driven to the local
hospital and then transported by a med flight helicopter to Children's
Hospital. I was to have emergency surgery upon arrival..." [read more]

Honored by Johns Hopkins
Several CM seventh and eighth graders have earned special recognition by the Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth and been invited to compete in its annual Talent Search program.
To earn this recognition, students must
earn a qualifying score on at least one section of a nationally

From the Athletics Department
Keshaudas Spence '10 and Lorenzo Warren '10 ran in two touchdowns a piece as CM Football
(4-0) defeated Longmeadow HS, 35-33, on 10/9. QB AJ Doyle '12 also connected
to Camren Williams '12 to score for CM, and Tom Byrne '11 was 5/5 on
PATs.
CM Soccer moved to 5-3-1 on the season with a win over Gloucester, 2-1, on 10/9. CM Golf finishes its season on 10/20 with a rematch against Winchester before heading to the postseason.

This Saturday, 10/17, Coach Vin Catano and the XC team will play host to the 50th Annual running of the Catholic Memorial Invitational. Races start at 9am with the varsity team scheduled for 10:30am. On 10/10, Ed Colvin '10 came in 10th place in the team's visit to the Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.

We need your help! The 48th annual Turkey Bowl game will be held at home this year and volunteers are needed. The game is scheduled for Thanksgiving morning: November 26, 10:30am. Parents and friends can volunteer for a variety of jobs. There will be an organizational meeting ahead of game day. Contact Sue Sullivan in the Athletics Office at 617-469-8061 for more information.

A Gold Medal Start to the Forensics Season
A dozen CM students earned recognition at the annual Massachusetts Forensics League Novice Tournament, hosted at Catholic Memorial on October 10. They included:

CM's forensics program earned significant recognition by the National Forensic League in 2009. Having
received 200 degrees or more last year, it placed in the top 5% of NFL
chapters nationwide and qualified for the NFL's "200 Club."

Mass for Deceased Members of the CM Community Please join the Rev. Joseph F. Mozer Tribunal Member, Archdiocese of Boston; Mr. Paul Sheff '62, President of Catholic Memorial School; and the Catholic Memorial Community as we honor the memories of deceased students, alumni, parents and friends at a Memorial Mass: Sunday, November 8 at 9:00am.
