e-Knightline February 17, 2009
Greetings CM parents, alumni and friends!
This is the second issue of e-Knightline. We hope you enjoyed receiving the first issue in January (if you missed it, read it on the CM website).
Given the successful move to an electronic edition of e-Knightline, Catholic Memorial School will suspend production of the print version effective this month. While we realize that reading Knightline in your email inbox or on the web is just not the same as getting it in the mail, we hope it will serve much the same purpose as it has in the past: keeping our parents up to date on the latest news, events and calendar items in the CM community.
As always, we welcome your feedback, and we hope you enjoy reading this month's issue of e-Knightline.

From the Guidance Department: Keys to Personal Success
by Bob Tegan, Guidance Director
What if I could give you the magic formula for student success? I think you would listen very carefully. You have already made a commitment to your son's best interest by enrolling him at a private school with a tradition of excellence. Our teachers are dedicated. Our curriculum is comprehensive. Our facilities are modern. Our administrators are visionary. I offer your sons three concrete suggestions for improving their personal lives and enhancing their academic standing:
READ. Children do what
they see. So, let them see you read instead of watching television,
maybe one night each week. Teach them that reading is a valued skill. I
am happy to report that our faculty has a book club. We get together
occasionally to discuss a chosen book. It is a social event and a
learning experience. Ms. Ann Magyar, our school librarian, coordinates
the events and the selection of books. Why don't you try to read a book
that your son has to read in class so that you could discuss it with
him along the way? Isn't it nice that Oprah has tried to do the same
for America with her book selections? Do you remember the SAT? The
first section (of three) is called "Critical Reading." Certainly this
is a skill worth developing!...[read more]
