Happy Autumn
The Eleven for October 2011

Hi there and welcome to The Eleven, my monthly e-letter which usually contains what I'm thinking about, photos and videos that have inspired me an a call or two to action.

This month's edition will be shorter and later than most due to the recent passing of my good friend, Amira.  Amira was a friend and sister who I've been very close to for the past 15 years.  She passed away on 10.12.11  If you'd like to know more about her I've written a short piece with a slide show on my website.  There are also celebrations of Amira's life that are coming up - please use this link to find out the latest details, thanks!

Amira is one of the most important people in my life and I and her family and extensive community are pretty shaken at this loss.

11 11 in the garden
I invite you to join me on Friday 11.11.11 at my house, The Happy Clam, for brunch starting at 10am. 1823 NE 13th Ave. Please bring healthy food to share. I'll talk about some of the projects I'm working on and there will be time to share what you're working on/thinking about while we share food together and bask in the specialness of 11.11.11
Occupy WallStreet to Occupy Portland, there's lots going on around the world where people are actively questioning and activating against the status quo. Here's a note that captured it for me. I encourage you to figure out some way to learn more about this movement and support it.  It's the best currency we have, ourselves, our communities, our minds and our actions.
sunflowers 2011
The birthday garden @ 3rd and Hancock that a group of friends started has been prolific this Spring/Summer and Fall. Thanks to those who helped us put it in. Here are some photos of how it's looking right now! We grew some of the tallest sunflowers ever, and the seeds are drying now and so the sunflower seed packet project can continue into 2012.

Biz: If you're curious about starting your own email newsletter, I am glad to help you get started.  Just give me a shout.  It's pretty easy to get started and a great way to support whatever endeavor you have going on.

I hope you're enjoying this lovely autumn season and sukkot. Word has it that my friend Scott McKinley (also a good friend of Amira's) has helped put together a sukkah at the Occupy Portland occupation. I can't wait to see it!

Be well,

Albert Kaufman
