Helpful Household Tips

An easy way to clean a cookie sheet is to line your cookie sheet with parchment paper. Bake your item, take them off the cookie sheet and then take off the paper and put the cookie sheet away.

When your child marks on the wall with a pen, you just spray the pen mark with hairspray and wipe it right off. For extra stubborn marks, I'm a big fan of the Mr. Clean magic eraser. Just get it wet and wipe off the marks. Works like magic!

Rubber dish washing gloves are great for removing pet hair from your furniture. Put them on, then stroke the furniture and the hair comes off and sticks to the gloves.

Greetings!

Well, it's already been a busy and eventful month for me. I've just returned from my website designer's office and am feeling such a sense of relief and excitement as I check yet another thing off my list for the year. It made me stop and think for a minute about why I felt such relief.

I don't know about you, but my plate always seems to be full. There just are not enough hours in the day to accomplish all that I need to (or want to)! This is one of the first times that I have handed a task over to a very competent partner to handle for me and I'm here to tell you...it gave me such a sense of relief! Don't get me wrong...I am a very competent person and could have figured out how to set up a website for myself, but there comes a time when we must recognize our own limitations. I am a decorator, not a web designer. I can make a window or bed fantastically beautiful. I could set up a nice website, but do I really want to settle for just nice? Or, do I want to hand this project over to someone who specializes in web design and allow them to make my site fantastically beautiful? Hmmm...this time I chose the latter and I have a new found sense of relief! Now I am free to focus my efforts on the things I am really good at and let other people handle the things for me that cause me to worry and procrastinate.

And what about you...what do you have on your list? This is one of the busiest times of year and many of us have plates that are fuller than we can handle all by ourselves. Often we are all weighed down by tasks that we could delegate if we could just let go a little. Were we ever really intended to handle everything ourselves anyhow?

One of the many services that The Finishing Touch provides is a computer rendering of your window treatments. This allows you to get a pretty good idea of what your window treatments will look like before you make your purchase. In some cases we can actually show you what the fabrics you have selected will look like on your windows.

The photograph above is a picture of a customer's sliding glass door with vertical blinds. The photograph to the right shows the computer generated rendering of the window treatment design we agreed upon. We are covering up the existing vertical blinds but they will remain in place to allow for privacy when needed.

Color Spotlight

Do you ever wonder why some colors make you feel energized while other colors completely drain you of your energy? Lets dive into the psychology of color and the impact they have on your home environment.

This month's color:
PURPLE

Historically purple is the color of royalty. Only the wealthy could afford to have their fabrics dyed in the color purple so it has been associated with wealth. Because purple is a combination of Red and Blue it takes on both color's attributes: red's stimulation and blue's calm. Lavender is not as definite a color as purple. Violet symbolizes delicacy.

Purple is often well liked by creative and eccentric people. It uplifts, calms the mind and nerves and encourages creativity.

Purple works well in bedrooms and kitchens. Purple pairs well with yellow or green, but a more sophisticated pairing of colors include violet with cocoa or neutral colors.
