CALL CENTER HOURS WILL CHANGE JAN. 1
As a means of cutting costs to keep electric service affordable for members, beginning January 1 GreyStone will no longer offer 24-hour Call Center phone service. Midnight to morning in-person phone service has proven not to be cost effective, and GreyStone hopes to save members $1 million a year through this change. Call Center hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Automated phone service and website service will remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. |
Record crowd celebrates 75th |
What a celebration! We would like to thank everyone for an incredible turnout celebrating our 75th anniversary at this year's Annual Meeting of Members. Attendance far surpassed last year in record numbers.
Congratulations to the Roberts family! They walked away new owners of the 2012 Hyundai Accent, donated by Thornton Road Hyundai.
Were you not able to make it this year? Read more about this year's event. You can also check out the photos on our Facebook page. |
Play it safe |
Ok parents, it's time for your sugar fix! Come on, you know what I am talking about! You take the kids out trick-or-treating, then when they go to bed, you go through their candy and pull out all of the good stuff. That is, if you can wait that long! Many of you simply swipe the goods in front of your kids. We call it the joy of parenting!
As parents, we also need to remember there's more to Halloween than candy and the fun of dressing up. We live in a challenging world now. The streets aren't quite what they used to be in 1950. As our world changes, it is important that we continue to teach our children about safety.
Here are just a few things to keep in mind as you prepare for your family outing:
- Make sure children are accompanied by a reponsible adult.
- Be aware of oncoming traffic while trick-or-treating in a neighborhood.
- Examine the treats to make sure they have not been tampered with.
- Have your child carry a flashlight or glow stick/necklace.
- Find out MORE tips on how you can play it safe this trick-or-treat season.

Saving money is always a hit! |
What a hit! We passed out over 140 new Co-op Connections discount cards at this year's Annual Meeting of Members. Both new and current card holders had the opportunity to ask questions and pick up the latest business listing, full of many new local restaurants (listed in last months E-Link). If you missed our booth, just contact us and we can send you and your family a card. There's no need to let a good thing pass you by.
As we transition into fall and winter, there will be many opportunities to save with your Co-op Connections Card (CCC). Don't forget flu season is coming up. Be sure to compare prices using your card versus your insurance. You may find the CCC to be cheaper! Join our members that have already saved $1 million on their prescriptions and start saving today.

National Cooperative Month |
October has been designated as National Cooperative Month since 1930, giving co-ops the opportunity to educate members about the co-op difference.
Marking the 75th year for many electric cooperatives, there has been a lot of talk about how the electric cooperatives were built-- not by big businesses looking for a profit, but by ordinary people working together.
More than 800 million people around the world belong to cooperatives, and at least 100 million of them are employed by co-ops. I bet you rely on more co-ops than your realize in your daily life.
Cooperatives exist to serve their members, who are in fact, the owners of the company. Not only do you receive products and services, you also have a say in business decisions through your vote. One of the unique things about co-ops, is rather than keeping the profits and paying investors, capital credits are returned to you, the member (which you received at the beginning of this month).
Every co-op operates based on seven principles:
- Open Membership
- Equal Say (one member, one vote)
- Economic Participation
- Education
- Independence
- Collaboration
- Education
