Celebrate Safety

As parents, we want to bundle our children up and protect them from the pain that bumps and bruises will cause as they grow. We can't always do that, but we can make sure the environment around them is safe.bubble wrap boy

June is National Safety Month. What better time to start focusing on safety around you than now?

The National Safety Council works hard each year encouraging organizations and individuals to participate in National Safety month. They have come up with weekly themes for the month to highlight critical safety issues that we all can take part in, either on our own, with our families or at our jobs.

Here's how you can get involved this month!

Summer rates are here: conserve and save!

summer man with iceThe temperature now soars into the 90s as we approach the first days of summer. The hotter the weather, the cooler we want our homes. The cooler our homes, the higher our bills, especially when we are experiencing as many days in the 90s as we recently have.

We want to take a moment to remind you that our slightly higher summer rate schedule, which began June 1 and runs through November, is designed to help recover the higher costs caused by the peak demand during this time period and the need to operate additional generating plants to meet the need.

Historically, electric usage increases in the summer when homes and businesses use more air conditioning, refrigeration and other electrical equipment. Naturally, keeping homes and businesses cool when temperatures soar costs more. To help us keep costs down for our members, we encourage them to always conserve, but especially during the summer months. Those who value comfort over economy may use their air conditioning as much as they like, but at a higher cost per kilowatt hour than in the winter, which in a sense means that those who conserve during the summer are rewarded by lower electric bills, while those who use as much as they like, pay the highest bills. In a sense the high users help subsidize costs for those who make more of an effort to conserve.

Due to our innovative methods of dealing with peak demand, negotiating the best rates in wholesale power contracts, and encouraging you, our members to conserve, GreyStone's members enjoy some of the lowest rates in the state and nation, winter or summer.

Energy Efficiency Seminar

airtightIs your air conditioner working harder this summer and costing more money than you would like to spend? Are you interested in learning more about the energy usage in your home and where you can cut back to save money?

Join us on July 28 as we host another Energy Efficiency Seminar

for GreyStone members! We had such rave reviews in May that we decided to offer it again.

"The energy efficiency seminar conducted on May 17 was very informative, professionally run, and totally member-oriented. I learned so much from the presentations. The take-home material was priceless. The GreyStone employee greetings and personal involvement was a difference maker and something I certainly noticed and appreciated. In essence, the seminar was worth the invested time. Job well done!" says GreyStone member Tantalous Smith.

The primary goal of the seminar will be to teach you, our members, the various ways you can save money throughout your home by reducing your energy usage. Come and learn how to perform your own personal energy audit in order to achieve and maintain those savings.

By attending the training, you will have the opportunity to practice what you have learned, in the hope of seeing your bills significantly decrease over the summer.

The seminar will cover existing and new home energy efficiency measures, rebate and financing opportunities and web services. For more information or to R.S.V.P., call 770-370-2273 or email [email protected].

Our Energy, Our Future

our energy our futureEver thought about what a grassroots campaign is or what's involved to make one happen?

In short, a grassroots campaign is an organization of people, starting at a local level, working together to tell others about a specific cause. By gaining public support and momentum, it is the desire to push the campaign to the legislative level, influencing local officials to voice their opinions to Congress based on what the public wants.

Over the years electric cooperatives from around the country have used this method of educating member-owners about legislative issues that could potentially have a positive or negative impact on the way we do business.

We are currently part of a national campaign to engage elected officials about how our country can meet climate change goals while keeping electricity reliable and affordable. The outcome of this legislation could have an effect on our electricity supply, technology and affordability to our members.

Learn more about this cause and make your voice heard today! You can take action and ask your elected officials to keep electric bills affordable. Don't forget to say thank you to those who are taking these issues seriously and working to keep our costs down.
