Issue Alert - South Burlington City Council to Propose Interim Zoning - Again

This evening (Monday, December 19) South Burlington City Council is set to consider a resolution to establish an Interim Zoning By-law with a Public Hearing on the issue to be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

This will be the second attempt to establish such a directive on new construction, and could have crippling impacts on the housing market for years to come.

We recognize that this is a busy time of the year for most people, but we strongly encourage people if they can to attend and speak out.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 PM in the City Hall Conference Room.

The agenda for the meeting can be found here.

The HBRA will continue to follow this issue and as the information is made public we will forward it on.

If you have any questions or if you are someone who will be directly impacted by this resolution, please contact Amanda Ibey, Government Affairs Director at aibey@vtbuilders.com or at 876-6200 ext. 12.

Volunteer Skilled Trades People Needed:

Volunteer skilled trades people such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, willing to put in some pro bono time this winter helping with reconstruction projects in flood-damaged homes. Contact Construction Manager Dave Kerr, 456-0076 or dave.rebuildwaterbury@gmail.com.

*****

Initial point of contact:  Bruce Genereaux, 603 553 7977 - "Irene Rebuild Coordinator - White and Ottauquechee River Basins" - office in White River Junction. This office will try to provide materials and will coordinate with homeowner. Association members are asked to provide expertise, tools and possibly surplus materials from other jobs?

E. Granville - Rt 12A - minor insulation on exterior wall of a single family home. Materials - PT plywood, ice and water shield, batt insulation, 2x6 PT. Scope - 1 day for two pro carpenters.

North Stockbridge - Rt 100 - Reynolds Home - 3,000 sq. foot, vintage (1875?) home - completely gutted by volunteers after storm - 9 feet of water inside. Needs plumbing, electrical, some structural, insulation and finish work. Would be a multi-contractor, multi month project. I envision staging increments of the work, bringing in professionals for short time periods so they are not away from paying work for more than a few days.

Rochester - 4707 Rt. 100 - Sandy Wall home. Finish work on 1,500 sq. foot modular. Was completely gutted after flood. Local volunteer professional contractors have been putting it back together. Needs insulation, sheet rock and interior trim. Possible flooring work.

Central Stockbridge - Rt 100 - Hallie Mendell -  Install kitchen cabinets and minor finish work. Was completely gutted after flood. Local volunteer professional contractors have been putting it back together. Possible flooring work too.

Gaysville (between Bethel and Stockbridge) - River Road - Don Fielder. Immediate need for electrician. A new home was built adjacent to damaged one. New home is 24x32 cabin/with loft. Open living space. Likely two/three days by professional electrician. Also could use carpenters to assist with interior building/window finishing and access stairs.

West Hartford Village - multiple major rebuilds - carpenters, electricians and plumbers needed.

Portland Glass
On "Undercover Boss"!

Dear Friends of Portland Glass:

I am very excited to announce that The Dwyer Group, parent company for Portland Glass and several other service brands, will be featured on CBS's hit reality series "Undercover Boss," on Sunday, January 22, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (7p.m. Central Time). Dina Dwyer-Owens, our CEO and chairwoman, accepted the opportunity to go undercover in an episode for season 3 of this Emmy-nominated series for an unprecedented opportunity to see our systems and our people up close at a grassroots level.  Now I invite you to share this news with your family, friends, peers, colleagues and professional networks.  Tune in and follow Dina's journey as she gains a first-hand look at the outstanding jobs that our service professionals do each and every day across our brands throughout the country and around the world.

America will meet Faith Brown, the undercover persona with a name Dina personally chose to pay tribute to her faith as a source of strength. She accepted the chance of a lifetime to see how The Dwyer Group Code of Values is taking hold across our franchise family as we celebrate more than three decades of business success and a focus on putting customers first. Dina worked in 118-degree heat with some dedicated men and women dressed as Faith in a uniform that included a wig, long fingernails, colored contact lenses and steel-toed boots!  While I wish the episode could have included all of our brands, CBS had full editorial control and had to limit the show to a few brands to fit the broadcast.
I am looking forward to the show as The Dwyer Group Code of Values takes center stage and invites us all to look harder at ourselves, our businesses, our customers and the opportunities we have each and every day to make a difference. I hope you will watch as well.

Sincerely,
Steve Butler
Vice President and General Manager of Portland Glass
