VT Homestyle Vermont HomeStyle is the  area's original home improvement magazine. Started in 2003 and published bi-monthly, Vermont HomeStyle is filled with tips and ideas for making your home the best it can be.  From building to remodeling ,decorating to organization, our magazine is your resource  for local content that is current and relevant to the  Vermont homeowner.

In 2010 we have seen a trend toward simplicity and balance in our homes that is likely to continue into the coming year.  Many people are choosing to stay put in their homes and put their money into thoughtful remodeling and decorating projects that will provide the best return on investment for the dollar.  Kitchen and bath renovations will always remain popular for this very reason. Our population is also aging and considerations for "aging in place"  is another trend that will  continue in 2011 and beyond.  We want to make our space in our homes work for every age group and Vermont is lucky to have some of the leading experts in the field right in our own backyard.  And without a doubt "Green" is the new black. It is always appropriate whether in homebuilding or design.  Products that were once reserved for a select few who could afford them are now readily available to everyone; we can't afford not to use them!

Visit www.vermonthomestyle.com for all the latest news and information in homebuilding and design in the Vermont area or pick up a copy at one of the many local outlets where free publications are provided.

CONFUSION OVER RRP RULE
LEAVES CONTRACTORS AT RISK FOR FINES.

(*Courtesy of American Indoor Air Quality Assessment Services - newsletter.)

Contractors still subject to fines! Even though the deadline for EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule certification has been extended the requirements to use lead safe work practices have not. EPA is still a levying fines against contractors, landlords, and property managers who fail to use lead safe work practices!  The following statement was published on the EPA website frequently asked questions section page 68, regarding the extension:

Question (7072): Does the June 18, 2010, announcement mean that EPA will not enforce certification and training requirements until after October 1, 2010, for firms and December 31, 2010, for renovators?

Answer from EPA: EPA is not stopping its enforcement against any renovation firms and individual renovators who do not comply with requirements of work practice standards and associated recordkeeping requirement. .However, EPA is providing additional time for renovation firms and workers to obtain the necessary training and certifications before enforcement of the firm certification and individual renovator requirements begins.

**The HBRA is offering Lead RRP Courses on September 23rd and October 14th at the office in Williston.  Visit our Calendar of Events for more information.**
