We've had a very busy month here at Broad Horizons. Personally, my husband and I have just returned from taking our two teenage sons on a tour through Peru including a hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It truly was a life changing experience for the boys and an unforgettable family vacation for all of us. Peru is one of my favourite destinations so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to return there with my family.
Back at the office we've been working diligently on the details for some fabulous upcoming trips; a SHORT-BREAK to London, England at Christmastime, our Yoga, Fitness & Fun in the Sun next February, Exploration Vietnam, Ireland and many more. As always, I encourage you to visit our website on a regular basis to see our upcoming tours. When you see tours of interest, please pre-register so that you will be on the list to be the first to hear about the completed itinerary, inclusions, pricing etc.
One of the most exciting announcements that I have to share is that our Founder, Susan Pearson, will be back this fall to escort our SHE SEES Southern France tour. If you haven't yet booked on this tour, I encourage you to do so now to avoid disappointment. This is sure to be yet another fabulous and memorable trip and the itinerary will have our ladies travelling through one of the most stunning areas of France. (See below for more details)
And, most important is that Sunday, May 8th is Mother's Day, which is traditionally celebrated by honouring mothers around the globe. Festivities in Canada often include home-made cards, walks in the park, lunches & brunches, phone calls across the miles, and for some, a simple hug and "I love you, Mom". As unique as each mother is, so is how she celebrates. Might I suggest that one of the best ways to celebrate "your day" may be a trip with the gals, perhaps even a mother/daughter trip on one of our female-friendly tours. Mother's Day is the perfect time to send some hints to your loved ones. Or, send us an email and we'll do the hinting for you. Making dreams come true with a gift of travel is an ideal Mother's Day gift and the memories will last a lifetime!
My hope for you this Mother's Day, is that it will be an occasion of fond memories for you and yours, and that you take time to celebrate in whatever fashion suits you best. And, please read to the bottom of this newsletter to learn more about the Mother's Day traditions around the globe.
Happy Travels and Happy Mother's Day.

Join Susan this fall as ..... SHE SEES Southern France Sept 16 - 28, 2011 | |
Hi everyone! This September, when the weather starts to turn cool here in Canada, the BH gals are off to the gorgeous Dordogne region in Southern France.
I am delighted to be escorting you to one of our all-time favourite destinations and I can hardly wait to share this breath-taking tour with my Broad Horizons travel buddies. Whatever your interests, I guarantee the Dordogne will suit you!
In the 'Land of 1001 Castles' the scenery is magical and the markets are some of the finest in France. You will be amazed by Sarlat, the market hub of the region that has been restored to its 17th-18th-century magnificence with such perfection that it is lit at night by gas lamps and is the setting for countless French movies. Get your cameras ready ladies, you are going to be inspired and awed by some of the most photogenic locations in the world! You'll be pleased to know that our tour takes place during the fall; one of the most desirable times to visit the south of France, when the light is rich and the landscape alive with color. Together we'll enjoy a hub and spoke approach that sees us spending consecutive nights in superb locations that include Bordeaux, Sarlat, and Toulouse offering a relaxed, authentic and incredibly memorable experience. Of course, one of the big draws of the region is food. Referred to as the gastronomic capital of France, every town has shops filled to overflowing with local treasures, as well as wonderful restaurants. I invite you to join us for SHE SEES Southern France. We have a great itinerary planned that you're sure to love and of course there will be a great group of gals to share the fun with us. | Mother's Day Celebrations Around the Globe | Written by Marcy Demelo I thought the following traditions around the world express how unique, yet similar, we mother's and daughters really are. I love all of the names used for "mother" in so many different languages throughout the world including: Mother, Madre, Mutte, Mamma, Ahm, Maman, Moeder, Daya, Haha, Majka, Matri, Mam, Mummy.... I found it inspiring how all mother's around the world are cherished as protectors, loving and grounded. Did you know:
· Chinese family names are often formed (begin) with a sign that means "mother". · Japan's Imperial family traces their descent from Omikami Amaterasu, their Mother of the World. · Hindu scripture credits the Great Mother, Kali Ma, with the invention of writing through alphabets, pictographs and beautiful sacred images. · George Washington once said, "My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her." · Native American Indian women have long been honored with the name, "Life of the Nation" for their gift of motherhood to the tribes. · Mother's Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world. Australia, Mexico, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, China, Thailand, all have special celebrations to honor Mothers, but not in the same way or on the same day as the United States and Canada. · In the Bible, Eve is credited with being the "Mother of All the Living." · "Mother Earth is also known as "Terra Firma", translated loosely as "solid ground." · Buddha honored mothers when he said, "As a mother, even at the risk of her own life, loves and protects her child, so let a man cultivate love without measure toward the whole world." · The Ancient Greeks celebrated Mother's Day in springs, like we do. They used to honor Rhea, "mother of the gods," with honey-cakes and fine drinks and flowers at dawn. Sounds like the beginnings of the Mother's Day tradition of breakfast in bed! Wishing you all a HAPPY MOTHER's DAY! |
