Introducing Scotland - BH Spring Fling 2011

Greetings ladies!

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful time of year!

To be sure the past month has been a whirlwind of activity for the gals of Broad Horizons.

We started out September with a fascinating trip to Russia, cruising along the scenic and historic waterways of the Czars.

We ended this past month with a short -break getaway to the dynamic city of Chicago. Considered to be one of the world's most exciting and sophisticated cities, Chicago is a treasure-trove of great art, architecture and photography.

(Be sure to check out our website PHOTO GALLERY to see first- hand the amazing sights experienced by the BH gals in these two fabulous destinations)

Now that we're back in the office, our focus is on 2011. We have a fantastic line-up planned for the year ahead and in this edition of    Fe-mail I am very pleased to bring you trip details of our women's tour of Scotland - BH Highland Spring Fling!

Our Highland Spring Fling 2011 has special meaning for your tour leader and BH Reservations Coordinator, Aileen Stewart. Born and raised in Scotland, Aileen is thrilled to be escorting the BH gals back to her homeland! Over the past months Aileen has personally designed this tour for Broad Horizons and has added numerous personal touches to this unique and enchanting adventure.

In closing, I want to thank you all for being such wonderful travel companions. We share your interest in seeing the world and together we have created some amazing travel memories that will last a lifetime. It is a pleasure travelling with you and we look forward to seeing you on an upcoming BH tour!

Chicago, Chicago - my kind of town!

What an experience Chicago was!  During our Sept 23-26 fun filled trip there were so many highlights. What a thrill to actually stand in the ballroom where US President Obama and the first lady took their first dance as a newly married couple....or shopping till we dropped at Oprah's store...or walking & shopping on the hustling & bustling streets of Michigan Ave.  And one cannot forget the thrill of viewing the awe inspiring architecture as we cruised along the Chicago River.

Yes ladies it was a wonderful weekend in the Windy City - new experiences....new friends and of course for a lot of us, new outfits and shoes!!!!

**Stay tuned for announcements of future SHORT BREAK tours in the upcoming months.

     From Russia with love.....

We're back!  Without a doubt this trip was life changing and throughout our fascinating journey we became enlightened to the many facets of Russia and its people.

During our river cruise we found the crew to be charming and hard working. As we cruised along the Svir River and mother Volga we were surprised to see the similarity to our Northern Ontario landscape.

One can't help be amazed at the extremes you see in Russia. From some of the most opulent palaces in the world to the modest riverside cabins that haven't changed in a century.

Now when I speak of Russia I will remember the smiling faces of crew members Eugene, Ruslan and Rita. Bright charming young people who are the faces of a "new" Russia.

During the tour I was inspired by the insightful comments made by our BH travel companions. At this time I would like to share with you a few comments that captured the feeling shared by so many of the women in our group.

"I never thought I'd ever visit the large unfamiliar land of Russia (so grand)"

"I never thought I would ever see palaces as beautiful as those in St. Petersburg (so breath-taking)"

"I never thought I'd fall so in love with the Russian people, the music, the peaceful waterways of the rivers and lakes (so heart-warming)"

"How wonderful to enjoy all of these things in the company of the grand ladies of Broad Horizons!"

BH gals set sail onboard the Peter Chaikovsky.

    Keep smiling!

Scottish humor is a distinctive brand of humour and the Scots cherish the difference.  Their humour is characterized with a well-developed, though often dry, sense of humor.

As we conclude this edition of  Fe-mail we thought it would be fun to share a light hearted story we heard recently from a handsome Glaswegian. (hometown Glasgow)

    Here goes.............

A Scotsman asks the dentist the cost for a tooth extraction.

"$85 for an extraction sir," was the dentist's reply.

"$ 85!!! Huv ye no' got anythin' cheaper?"

"That's the normal charge," said the dentist.

"Whit aboot if ye didnae use any anesthetic?"

"That's unusual, sir, but I could do it and knock $15 off."

"Whit aboot if ye used one of your dentist trainees and still without an anesthetic?"

"I can't guarantee their professionalism and it'll be painful. But the price could drop to $40."

"How aboot if ye make it a trainin' session, ave yer student do the extraction with the other students watchin' and learnin?"

"It'll be good for the students," mulled the dentist. "I'll charge you $5. But it will be traumatic."

"Och now yer talkin' laddie! It's a deal," said the Scotsman.

"Can ye confirm an appointment for the wife next Tuesday then?"
