Make it Happen!
Greeting ladies!
Like the rest of the world, I've been glued to the television this week watching the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
The words "personal best" are imprinted in my mind, as I admire the passion and pride that each athlete exhibits. Without a doubt the opening ceremonies and the excitement of the games make me proud to be a Canadian!
Watching these historic games, I can't help but think that "achieving our personal best" is central to the idea of "a life well-lived". With this in mind, "personal best" seems like the perfect theme for our February newsletter. On that note, I recently spoke with a BH member who could be a poster child for "personal best," as she has lived many of her own dreams since she retired and she encourages everyone else to do the same.
Notes from our BH Alumni - Tips for reaching your personal best!
- Be focused. Figure out what is your dream, your priority.
- Make a plan. Researching how you can achieve your goals will allay your fears.
- Seek support with group activities where kindred spirits abound.
- Develop friendships with people of all ages, which connects you to many generations.
- Be willing to take risks. Once you have the focus, the determination, the plan and the support, the risk taking is easier.
- Remember that the best way to predict the future is to create it!
In closing, we sincerely look forward to creating timeless memories for you. We share your urge to travel - to open our minds, to move beyond the familiar and to achieve our personal best!

Travel Tip
Dollar Stores - can be a traveller's best bet!
Our BH gals frequently check out the dollar stores when assembling their supplies for a trip.
Sure you can spend a lot more in high end specialty stores but honestly, the baggage tags and various other miscellaneous items from the dollar store work just as well.
Most women we talk to prefer to be creative and keep more money in their wallet for treasures they discover on holiday!
Below are a few inexpensive things we often pick up at the dollar store:
Small Coloured Change Purses: Keep foreign coins in their own separate change purse. (i.e. euros) A small coloured change purse is easily seen in your bag. Nice and handy if you just need change for a pop!
Luggage tags: coloured, novelty tags are plentiful at dollar stores.
Slippers: one size fits all! Tuck a pair in your suitcase to protect your feet. At $1 a pair you can afford to throw them out prior to your return flight.
Mesh Laundry Bag: Great for grouping clothes in your suitcase. (i.e. socks)
The advantage with mesh is that you can easily see what is inside. At the end of the trip the mesh bags are ready for the laundry room at home!
Calculators: Having a calculator with you is a great idea! Just a small solar powered one will do the trick when you want to calculate the exchange rate or add up a restaurant check.
Clear plastic rain poncho: a great little item to tuck into your bag. During an unexpected downpour this will keep you dry and at $1 you can just throw it away when the weather clears.
Souvenirs from home: it is always a good idea to bring along a few handouts. The dollar store has a large variety of CDN emblem pens, frig magnets, and other souvenirs. It promotes good will across the cultures and you are sure to get a hug or a big smile from the recipient.
*If you have a useful travel idea for dollar store merchandise be sure to let us know and we'll publish it in an upcoming Fe-mail.

Final thoughts from our Founder.....
What makes a perfect women's-only tour?
Designing a great women's tour requires a thorough understanding of the country you're visiting, its history, its traditions, its way of life, and what it is about it that makes people 'tick'.
You have to know where the best historic and cultural sites are, and the most enjoyable activities. And you have to know the best accommodations and restaurants and how to connect with the locals.
A truly great tour requires flexibility and there has to be a balance of scheduled activities and down time. You have to know the tastes and preferences of your female travellers.
During a women's tour you are no longer someone's mother, wife, boss or employee. You are just simply YOU . . . so you can just relax and enjoy not having to fit into any roles.
"By designing each BH tour and working out the details, the Broad Horizon's team establishes the foundation for a successful tour. However what makes the trip especially memorable are the women who join us for each BH adventure."
In the months ahead, we'll embark on a number of fantastic BH tours. For those of you who are booked onto one of our fabulous trips, you can look forward to a fascinating and fun experience that will create treasured memories that last forever!
If you haven't had a chance to register yet, I encourage you to have a peak at our UPCOMING TOURS section of the website or call the BH team today!
