PECO Volunteers Make a Difference
Opportunities PA
PECO volunteers with speed mentoring participants

During National Volunteer Week (April 15-21), the Coalition partnered with long-time supporter, PECO to help their employees make a difference in the community. Ten PECO volunteers participated in a speed mentoring event with Opportunities PA A UAC program partner, Opportunities, PA works to improve the lives of homeless and at-risk youth.

Eleven teen residents from a local shelter participated in the event, led by organization executive director, Justina Shaw. "Speed mentoring is a great way to give people a snapshot of the extraordinary challenges many homeless teens face and an opportunity to engage them in a safe environment," said Justina. Inspired by the spirit of service, at the end of the evening, PECO volunteers expressed their interest in continuing their involvement with Opportunities PA by mentoring and participating on their board. In addition, the PECO team provided 60+ travel size hygiene kits for shelter residents. For more information on Opportunities PA, go to www.opportunitiespa.org or call 215-779-6827.
