UAC's organization leaders have long been engaged in addressing the challenges and opportunities affecting their communities. Many are African-American men who not only serve as leaders, but also serve as mentors to younger generations.
Recently 25 men from across the country were recognized for their good work. They were selected as finalists for the national Black Male Engagement (BME) Leadership Award. BME (pronounced "be me"), is an initiative sponsored by the Knight Foundation, which seeks to bring well deserved attention to black men who are making their communities stronger.
Among the UAC honorees are: Duerward "Woody" Beale of YO-ACAP; Brandon Brown of Nu Sigma Youth Services; Darryl Coates of Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network and Nu Sigma Youth Services; andBilal Qayyum of the Father's Day Rally Committee. |

The project demonstrates great connectivity back into the neighborhood fabric, integrating both existing buildings, developed open spaces, and the esplanade walk. A good range of density has been represented, particularly along the river, and this plan has transformed the city in a substantial way. -- 2012 Institute Honor Awards for Regional and Urban Design Jury speaking about the Master Plan for the Central Delaware River Waterfront. UAC's Economic Development Projects department served as consultant on the project. |
