You Make It Happen!
NAP Week 2011
National Activity Professionals Week is next week - January 16th-21st!  They inspire & engage our elderly friends & family; every day they creatively find ways to enrich the lives of our elders through activities that use the mind, body and spirit whether it is in an independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing home or retirement community. A heartfelt thank you to each of you from the staff at SWD.

The National Association of Activity Professionals has put together a packet of resources on their website that is available as a download.  Be sure and check it out and take advantage of the great suggestions for you to use in your activity programming.  You can find it here.

Snow Days!

Well, this past week brought weather to many locations around the US.  At one point, every state in US had snow except Florida - and yes, that includes Hawaii!  The weather created many delays and cancellations.  We heard from many of you that you had to change scheduled dream fulfillments due to the weather.  Keep us posted as you reschedule your dream programs.

Dream Outcome Forms

Be sure and send in your dream outcome forms for 2010.  We need to have them by January 31st in order to include them in our year end report.  You can send them by email, fax (740-738-0644), US Mail, or submit them on our website.

Marching Band

Submitted by Rae Mayes

Morningside of Springfield, TN

At 92 years of age Miss Mary K. Holman's dream was to march with a marching band. She was a teacher for more than 40 yrs. But said, "When I went to school we didn't have marching bands and I've always wanted to march with a marching band," With the help of her family and the Springfield High School Band Miss Mary K's dream came true. Our local TV station was there to capture the moment. There was not a dry eye in the stands when the announcer told over the intercom what was about to happen. Everyone stood up and clapped and cheered as Miss Mary K. marched out on to the football field at half time, in full band uniform with the Springfield High School Marching Band. When Miss Mary K. got back home that night at Morningside Assisted Living, Springfield, Tn. She said she didn't get any sleep for the people that saw her on the news and wanted to congratulate her. She told me (Rae Mayes) the next day, "well I guess I'll have to think of something else to do now that was so much fun," and she did the next month she went for her first ride on a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

  The Survey Says . . . . . .

Our recent membership survey revealed that seeing the dream stories is one of the biggest motivators for dreamweavers!  Please remember that we can't share your stories if you don't send them to us!  Each week we search for dreams to highlight on our website and social networks as well as here in our News & Inspirations!  The more we receive, the more you will get to see!  No dream is too big or too small to share!  We want to hear about them all!

Our survey also told us that you want to learn new ways to improve your dream program.  We are currently working on a resource page that will be available to members only on your welcome page at our website.  This page will have a resource tree for dream fulfillment.  You will also find a list of contacts for specific dream needs.  If you have resources or contacts you'd like to share with other dreamweavers on our resource page, please email them to us!  We all learn from each other!

We are analyzing all of the data received in this survey and will be making improvements to this newsletter as well as to our website members only area.  Thank you to all who participated in our survey and as always, we are here for YOU our members.  If you have suggestions for improving the membership experience, feel free to share it via email or through our forum on the website.  Remember, you have to be signed in to access the forum.
