Happy New Year
You can now download the most up to date Second Wind Dreams manual and forms at our website.  When you login, they are located at the bottom of the welcome message.  You will need adobe acrobat to download and print or save.  Please remember these are copyright protected materials and can only be used by SWD members.

We are completing our 2010 dream report and want to make sure your activity is included.  If you have not submitted all of your dream outcome reports for 2010, please do so by January 31, 2011 so we can be sure and include your stories in our report.  2010 was certainly an incredible year for our elders because of the hard work that you all do every day!  Thank you for your commitment.

In February, We will have our first online meeting to help members with submitting new dreams and dream outcomes via the e-dreams network.  If you are interested in participating, please email Laurie for more information and available dates and times.

Thank you to those of you who participated in our recent membership survey.  Your suggestions and comments are very valuable and will help us as we strive to improve our membership program.

computerNew Volunteer Opportunity

Announcing an innovative research study to gain understanding of how to use technology to help fulfill dreams of elders.  The general concept is to enable a volunteer (at home or school) to work with an elder via the Internet.  The first case study of the research project will focus on fulfilling a dream of an assisted living resident who wishes  to play Spice and Malice.   We currently need a volunteer who knows how to play Spice and Malice and has a computer with webcam and audio and Internet access.   Please email Saun or call him at 404-462-0281 if you are interested in volunteering for this exciting study.   Saun will provide you with more details and work with you very closely throughout the project.    We appreciate your support.

With the college footbal championship game right around the corner.  We thought it only fitting that we share this incredible dream come true for an elder in Gallatin, TN, 77 years in the making!  The folks at Morningside know the power of the dream!  Great job!  Follow this link for the Football Dream Story!

GOLGifts of Light 2010
Thank you to everyone who participated in Gifts of Light 2010.  Your dedication and generosity will be long remembered by the individuals you visited and by all of us at SWD.  Gifts of light served over 700 elders in the metro Atlanta area who would not have otherwise received a visit and gift during the holiday season.  These elders have no family and in many cases are wards of the state.  We couldn't provide this program without the tremendous support from the surrounding communities and business sponsors.  Thank you once again for stepping up to the plate to make it another successful event.

VDT LgoGeorgia Ombudsman Program
Embraces the VDT
.

On February 17, 2011 the State of Georgia will be training staff members of their Ombudsman Program to facilitate the Virtual Dementia Tour.  This important step on behalf of the State of Georgia will increase greater understanding and sensitivity toward individuals with dementia.  This initiative goes well beyond classroom training by providing a hands-on approach to understanding dementia and individuals specific needs.  Alabama and Texas already have the VDT included as a significant part of their Area Agency on Aging programs.

We are committed to you as our members to help you discover and fulfill the dreams of the elders you care for every day!  Please contact us if we can be of assistance in any way.  Without you the
dreams would remain hidden in the hearts of every elder.

Sincerely,

Second Wind Dreams
