Dear Friend of Second Wind Dreams,
This time of year is a great time to let your local schools know about Second Wind Dreams youth volunteer program! Take a moment to contact a school close by to partner with you this school year! You can work with high schools, colleges and even middle schools! Student programs can help with dream discovery, fulfillment, celebrations, fundraising and more! If you need additional information about working with students, give me a call! I'd love to help you start a SWD Youth program in your area!
Dream Stories Needed!
We need your dream stories! We want to hear all of the details! You can email them to laurie@secondwind.org. Be sure and include a picture if at all possible! You may just see one of your dream stories in an upcoming newsletter or email blast!
Harrah's Foundation Initiative Update
In June, we launched Second Wind Dreams in New Orleans, LA. This marks the third market receiving support from the Harrah's Foundation. During the kick off event on June 30th, the Harrah's HEROs of Harrah's New Orleans, fulfilled the dreams of five local elders from three local elder care communities. Among them, a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan was able to meet Michael Lewis of the Saints' football team. Mr. Lewis then presented the elder with a basket full of Saints' goodies including two tickets to a game, luxury box seats and limo transportation - all courtesy of the Harrah's New Orleans HEROs. There was also an elder who share some beautiful poetry with the crowd gathered for the event. Her dream was to have use of a typewriter so that she could put her handwritten poetry into a book to pass along to family and friends. Thanks to an antonymous donor, she received her own typewriter.
In Las Vegas, an elder was given the opportunity to see Donny & Marie Osmond in concert and was delighted to be part of a "meet & greet" with the siblings after the show. And in Hammond, Indiana, an elder received a ride on a Harley - his first ride ever on a motorcycle!

SWD Founder to Present Program
SWD Founder, PK Beville, will be presenting "The Virtual Dementia Tour: A Challenging Journey and How to Move Forward
From Here" at the Alzheimer Foundation's 4th National Concepts in Care Conference on September 24th, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois. Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in the Virtual Dementia Tour experience.

Feautured Dream
John Folmer, 86, had the lessons, he even owned a plane-- then a storm came along and destroyed his plane and he didn't have the finances to replace it-- he never got his pilot's license. He wanted to go up in a plane one more time. That happened for him on Saturday June 13th. Laurel Lake employees, Mary Ford and Jimmy Fausnight, along with John's daughter, Peggy, went to the Portage County Airport for his flight. From what I have been told, John was seated in the pilot's seat and flew the plane--I just know that he came back to the building with a huge smile on his face-- he even flew over Laurel Lake and saw the golfers out on the course! He was also presented with a flight certificate for over 80 by the pilot. Congratulations John Folmer!

Dream Outcome Forms
Please be sure and complete a dream outcome form for every dream you fulfill! No matter how big or how small, we need them all! Very soon we will have a new feature on our website where you can go and complete your dream outcome forms and submit electronically. We will let you know when that is up and running and how to access it! In the meantime, please submit your forms via email to laurie@secondwind.org, by fax to 678-624-9578 or by mail to our Atlanta mailing addres found above. It is also important to include photos and media (if any) in your report. You can attach digital photos to an email submitted form. We appreciate all your hard work on the dreams and we want to show it off!
