Team for Life Endurance Events - New! ING NYC MARATHON!;The Golden Gate Triathlon, the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon 2012

Dear Friends,

Last month we said good bye to our Endurance Event Coordinator and Team for Life leader Jenny Walls. Jenny was with us for nearly three years and has helped us raise hundreds of thousands of dollars through Team for Life events. She lives in, and worked for Lazarex, from Seattle. We've decided to bring Team for Life into our Danville office. While searching for someone to fill Jenny's shoes we know we will never replace Jenny in our hearts. Thank you, Jenny, for all your good work and best of luck.

In the last newsletter we mentioned our impending move to our new location at 50 Oak Court in Danville. I am pleased to report that we are now fully moved in and functioning beautifully in our much larger and more functional office suite. We already miss our friends at 169 Front Street, but we could not pass up the opportunity to grab this space at a very reasonable price. It will help us to grow and prosper.

You may notice as you read this newsletter that we are branching out with the type of fundraising events that we do. In addition to our endurance events we added a poker tournament at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley; an event for all Olympic level shoppers at Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, CA; and a Grand Canyon Hike that can be a lifetime memory. Team for Life athletes will be thrilled to see that we have been accepted into the ING NYC Marathon! We've also added the Marine Corps Marathon and two Disney races to our schedule of 2012 events!  See all the new races on our Team for Life website.

Please enjoy this newsletter and then take a moment to dwell on the many blessings you and your family enjoy. After all, it's about life!

Sincerely,

Dana's sig

Very Important Patient (VIP) Update: Satinka Stiles

Satinka Stiles is a 37 year old mother of 4 young girls. She was diagnosed with a very rare bone cancer in November 2008. The cancer is a giant cell tumor located in the spine near her tailbone. There are less than 10 people in the U.S. known with her particular cancer. So her only chance for survival at this point is to receive treatment in California through a clinical trial.

Satinka's Story:

Doctors in Austin, Texas did not want to operate on this tumor due to the very high risks so they sent Ms. Stiles to Houston, Texas to a well known cancer hospital called M.D. Anderson. There they did a series of embolizations which were supposed to stop the blood flow to the tumor and "starve" it to keep it from growing. Instead it made the tumor more aggressive and it started to grow rapidly. In August 2009 the Oncology team at M.D. Anderson scheduled Ms. Stiles to have an extraction of the tumor. She spent 3 months in the hospital which left her unable to walk or even get out of bed. Upon returning to her home in Austin, Ms. Stiles' Oncologist saw that the tumor had already grown back and decided to start radiation therapy. The tumor had shrunk 25% but a few months later it began to grow again. In December 2009 the Oncology team at Texas Oncology read about a clinical trial for giant cell tumors in Santa Monica, CA and felt strongly that she should go as there was nothing more to be offered through conventional treatment. Ms. Stiles knew that this was her only other treatment option but could not afford the frequent travel, or to relocate to, California. Her social worker at Texas Oncology told her about Lazarex and in July 2011, before she knew it, she was on the first flight to California to participate in the Denosumab clinical trial. Now, in 2012, Ms. Stiles is walking again, the tumor has shrunk significantly and she is looking forward to the future with her children!! Thanks to Lazarex Cancer Foundation!

Patients like this month's VIP, Satinka, are benefiting from support like this every day. Please help us by  who you think would be interested in Lazarex.

GILLIG buses are highly regarded by the U.S. transit industry, and GILLIG has a solid reputation of being the most stable and financially secure company, focused on satisfying their customers and delivering on their promises. Lazarex is proud to work with this outstanding corporate citizen.

Gillig.com

GILLIG was founded over 115 years ago, in 1890, in San Francisco, for the purpose of modifying and building buggies and carriages - the main mode of transportation at that time. GILLIG adapted to the new horseless technology, but in 1906 the factory burned down in the great San Francisco earthquake and fire. That setback didn't keep GILLIG down, the factory was soon rebuilt and the production of early model buses began, followed later by school buses and troop transports.

Creative engineering and aggressive problem solving led to many innovative product firsts, such as the patented California Top for touring cars of the 1920's, the first transit style school bus in the 1930's, the first rear engine diesel powered coach in 1959, and the first production built, dedicated LNG transit bus in 1992.

Today, GILLIG is the second largest producer of transit buses in North America and produces around 1,200 to 1,300 buses per year for hundreds of different customers, from Alaska to Florida. Most of the buses GILLIG builds today are powered by the worlds cleanest and most efficient diesel engines. Today's clean diesel engines are more fuel efficient and also emit up to 90% fewer exhaust emissions.

GILLIG continues to invest in new technology and look for the next generation engine to power buses - and believes it is hybrid electric. In 1996, we built our first hybrid electric bus. It was a series hybrid system, which was followed in 2001 by the first parallel hybrid heavy-duty transit bus ever built.
