The February luncheon continued the tradition in
of hosting the Mayor's State of the City. Mayor Don Reimal addressed issues regarding schools,Public Safety Tax, economy and regional cooperation between the cities. Chamber volunteers were also recognized for their outstanding leadership in the Chamber.

Youth L.E.A.D.
The Youth L.E.A.D. class learned about public safety in Independence. After their leadership training they observed and participated in some of the police/fire academy exercises. The next stop involved viewing some of the historic fire engines as well as experience riding in one. Independence Police Department gave a demonstration of their Canine Unit. Nick Hadley ended the day as always with a stock market review as well as a financial fitness preview.

Member: Drumm Farm Center for Children
Drumm Run 2012 - 5K/10K Walk/Run
Saturday, March 24, 2012 - 9 am at Unity Village
Since 1929, Drumm Farm has been providing safe, stable, long-term homes for children whose parents are not able to care for them. In the State of Missouri alone, there are over 12,000 children in the Foster Care System. Although the system works well for some children, many experience frequent moves from one foster home to another and are often separated from their biological siblings. For children in foster care, Drumm offers a permanent home where children can enjoy their childhood, grow up with their siblings and receive the support they need to become successful adults.
Helped foster children of all ages build successful lives by providing stable family-style homes and opportunities for personal growth.
Drumm is completing renovations on one of their historic buildings, Swinney Hall. The building will be used for Drumm and campus partner, Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association, to expand administrative space and program services. The top floor of the building will provide apartments for Drumm youth preparing to transition out of foster care. Bringing the building back to life will open living space in other campus buildings for additional foster children.
The Run
The Drumm Run is a 5K /10K run/walk. The course is a mix of paved, gravel and grass terrain within the beautiful grounds of Unity Village. It is a timed event and the results will be posted a couple of days after the run. There will be aid stations along the course with drinks and food. The $35 entry fee includes an event long sleeve shirt.
What happened last year?
2011 was our best year yet. We were joined by over 300 participants and we raised over $40,000! Thanks to all our great sponsors and volunteers.
