Kurds Push for Equal Rights in Turkey
|
As the largest minority group in Turkey, the Kurds are demonstrating many years of resentment against their Turkish government. Just as protests begin to turn more and more violent, parliament begins to understand and respect the severity of the requests by encouraging equal and progressive reformation.
Through the inspiration of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States during the 1960s and with the support of neighboring Muslim nations also in revolt, the Kurds are able to gain the confidence they need to challenge authority and request their demands.

As of 1998, only 10% of Palenqueros under 25 years of age, speak Palenquero
Established by runaway slaves in the 17th Century, San Basilio de Palenque served as a hideaway for other slaves in the outlandish jungles of Columbia. During the process of transporting the slaves to South America, a new language was born composed of Spanish and their African ones. Today, the language of Palenquero is facing a much darker fate challenging its very own existence.
