Canada's Biotech Industry

Canada's
position as a leader in biotechnology - currently one of the top five countries
in the world - is a reflection of the country's large investment in the biotech sector
and biomedical research.
With public firms making up 20%, the number
of biotech companies in the country continues to grow accompanied by an increase in revenues. On a global scale, the total number of biotech firms in Canada outnumbers that of the UK and Japan.

Biotech News: Will Sanofi speak French to Genzyme?

 Sanofi-Aventis, a major French pharmaceutical company, recently announced
that it has entered into a deal to buy Genzyme, the Cambridge, MA-based
biotech company that dominates the rare disease drug market. Sanofi's
offer to buy Genzyme at $74 a share speaks for the French company's need
