Language Connections

Dear Colleagues:

International outsourcing of clinical trials to all parts of the globe is no longer a new phenomenon in the biopharmaceutical industry. Many companies opt to conduct clinical research in Latin America due to the logistical challenges of outsourcing to more distant regions. As a result, Mexico has become a popular clinical trial location.

We've recently published an article in the Journal of Good Clinical Practices entitled "Trials in Mexico: Addressing the challenges." This article discusses some of the challenges that companies must address in order to conduct successful clinical trials in Mexico. Do all clinical trial participants speak the same type of Spanish? What are the differences among ethnic groups? What ethical challenges do companies face?

In short, the article outlines the advantages and the difficulties of outsourcing clinical research to Mexico, and further emphasizes the need to implement expert translation and localization strategies. We hope that you take the opportunity to read it in GCPj's February issue, and that you find it both insightful and useful.
