Dear Colleagues:

Have you heard about the Chinese "Hai Gui" phenomenon and its significant impact on biotech research in China and around the world?  If not, we think you should - and if you're already familiar, we're offering you an update.

"Hai Gui" translates to "Sea Turtles" in English.  Sea Turtles are the thousands of highly educated Chinese scientists returning to China from the West, positioned to enhance China's biotech research industry and grow research partnerships with companies from around the world.

Latest stats:  More than 100,000 Chinese students leave China to study overseas every year; these graduates are now returning in increasingly larger numbers, from around 6,000 per year in 1995, to more than 40,000 in 2006 (Gross and Connor 2007).

As we reported last month, Western companies are already taking advantage of manufacturing biopharmaceuticals in China.  Now, connecting with the Sea Turtles helps you to expand biotech investments into research as well.

We hope our article
The Return of the Sea Turtles inspires some new thinking.  And that you'll agree it supports our message: language and cultural adaptation are key to enduring international business relationships.

As always, we invite your comments.

Best regards,
