Job in Focus:
Capital Hill Exterior Restoration
We are currently working on a restoration project on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, that has involved several stages of work to complete. In the late spring, the paint from the front facade brick was stripped. The brick was then re-pointed and restored over the summer by Bricklands Masonry. After the masonry was given sufficient time to cure, we were able to start work on the various decorative trim elements. A century of "alligatored" and peeling paint have been carefully removed to reveal long-hidden architectural details on the cornice balustrades. A carpenter has been hired to duplicate some of these balustrades to replace the damaged ones.
This project, nearly seven months in the making, will soon be completed. The trim and brick have been restored to their original grandeur. The owners feel satisfied that their home can now proudly sit among the other landmark homes on Capitol Hill.

Tip of the Month:
Keep those gutters clean to protect your home
This time of year is especially hard on gutters. Leaves, twigs, and debris can quickly clog gutters, or even worse, block downspouts.
Gutters that cannot drain properly will overflow, which leads to water infiltrating the exterior wood trim, or even worse, the interior of your home. Overflowing gutters are a common cause of water damage to your interior walls and ceilings. Water can also seep into the eaves and eventually make it behind the exterior facade. All of these scenarios can result in costly repairs and repainting work.
The choice is yours: spend a little time now to clean your gutters and downspouts, or spend a lot of money later to fix the damage they can cause!!
