HOO HOOOOOOOOO! We have a new President-Elect and the country (and the world) is excited about the possibilities. A contributing factor to Obama's win no doubt, was his campaign's use of the Internet. He now promises to use similar technology to make government more transparent and efficient. He will also most likely use it to communicate with the American public in a more timely fashion. Imagine it,,,instead of the fireside chats of FDR, our new president will probably talk to us much more frequently via YouTube videos, and best of all, we'll be able to respond with feedback and suggestions. k.d. lang - "if satin had a sound..." |
 I had the distinct privilege of seeing k.d. lang perform last night. All I can say is WOW!!!! She came across as warm, genuine, and humble and her voice is absolutely fabulous. I've always like k.d., but until last night, Melissa was my favorite performer. I'm not one to stay up late, but last night, I became more engergized as the night went on. It was 11:30 before I hit the sheets and I actually had trouble falling asleep.
I had planned to write a review of the concert, but think I'll just steal the words from Andrea Myerson, owner of www.womenonaroll.com and All Out Films. She recently had the honor of interviewing k.d. lang and watching her concert in Austin, Texas. She was so moved by the woman and her music, she felt compelled to write this in one of her newsletters...
"Ninety minutes of pure bliss! From the moment k.d. stepped on to the stage until her last lingering note (and it did linger), the entire audience seemed in a mesmerized state, intoxicated by her music. She received three standing ovations during the concert, not including the long one at the end of the show that did not subside until she came out for her encore!
She was passionate, playful, poignant and quite frankly, phenomenal. Though short and sweet, she excited the audience with her words about Obama. She roused us again protesting Prop 8. She danced. She joked. She sang hymns. She sang ballads. She sang our favorite songs and introduced us to new ones. And she even revisited her country roots. Never losing her captivated audience, not even for a moment."

Hot Flash Dances in Tucson |
 Okay, I admit it, my partner and I are not exactly party animals. We are usually up about 5am and crawling into bed about 8pm. So,,,we weren't exactly thrilled about going out dancing. But,,,our friend Judy was the organizer, so we wanted to show our support.
Well, we didn't exactly close down the joint, but we did have a great time while we were there. The dance was just as advertised: early hours (5:30-9:30), nice, safe place (The Biz), great old school music, reasonably priced drinks, and a bunch of nice women. The next dance is on December 20th at 5:30pm, come on out for the fun! | |

This election was bittersweet for our community with the adoption of anti-gay marriage legislation in California, Arizona and Florida. What we learned is that we can no longer be silent. This is our civil rights movement and this is our time. Do your part for the cause and show up at the National Day of Protest rally in your town this Saturday, Nov 15.
