Greetings!
It's been another crazy couple of weeks. What with the hurricanes, economic meltdown, continuing marathon of a presidential campaign, and oh my gosh, Lindsay Lohan's admission that she's a lesbian. I mean, what is the world coming to?
In the midst of all this craziness, it's important to keep cool and focused on our priorities. I suspect for many of us, one of those priorities is family, and oh by the way, that comes in many varieties. For Holly and me, our immediate family consists of two cats and, as of 2 weeks ago, a two-year old Italian Greyhound mix named Dolce. It all started at the checkout line at PetSmart (there are always temptations at the checkout lines), my eyes strayed over to the pet adoption clinic and, presto, we filled out the application to bring her home.
So, instead of worrying about how the world is spiraling out of control, I recommend we all focus on what makes us happy and what we can control. For me, that's my partner and my pets (okay, I'm talkng the "makes me happy part", not the "control part"). Because no matter what, they love me just the way I am (most of the time). Pretty good deal, huh?
Take Care, Linda |

Websites of the Week
Sites for Coupon Clippers
Centsoff.com - is a good, "cost-effective" place to find a large number of grocery coupons. The site provies an "extensive" selection but requires a $7.50 annual membership fee "plus $7.50 for up to 50 coupons."
TheCouponClippers.com - is "easy to use" and offers a "very extensive" selection of coupons for items ranging from frozen foods to beauty products. For every order, the site does charge a 50-cent fee, "plus 10 percent of the face value of each coupon." Shipping costs an extra 58 cents, but users can "shop by department or via search tool."
SmartSource.com - provides free, "printable" grocery coupons. The site's only catch is that it doesn't feature a search tool. Scouring for coupons here may save you money, but it won't save time.

Proposition 102
Tucson GLBT Chamber of Commerce View
The Tucson GLBT Chamber of Commerce (TGLBTC) opposes Proposition 102, the Arizona Constitutional Amendment that would put into our constitution wording similar to current statute that limits marriage in Arizona to people of the opposite gender. The TGLBTC believes this Amendment is unwise, ill-timed and wasteful of public resources. Just two years ago, the people of Arizona soundly rejected a similar proposition. But now, radical activists, funded largely with out-of-state dollars, would once again enshrine into our constitution a negative, discriminatory, hateful message that a certain class of people is not welcome in Arizona. As a part of our Constitution, it could eventually come into conflict with evolving national policy, causing undue expense and legal wrangling - all of which could be avoided by simply leaving the current statute intact. Supporters of Prop 102 have argued that this initiative is solely a 'social issue' and not a concern for businesses. We strongly disagree! Proposition 102, if successful, can only worsen the current economic crisis. By positioning Arizona as unfriendly to the GLBT community and potentially to domestic partnerships in general, it rekindles past stereotypes of our state and once again hampers our ability to compete with neighboring states. It discourages inward movement of individuals, families, educators and corporations and drives out those who are already here. Thus, Prop. 102 is both anti-business and anti-economic development. The Tucson GLBT Chamber of Commerce encourages all business and professional organizations and business leaders to oppose this ballot initiative and to focus our efforts around what is really important to businesses large and small -- economic growth and development. Why Women Should Vote
The Moniker Democrat, Republican, Independent Not as Important as "Voter"
This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.
Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote. The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of "obstructing sidewalk traffic." They beat Lucy Burns , chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.
Thus unfolded the "Night of Terror" on November 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote.
For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.
