Please Help Repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
Hello All, The Servicemember's Legal Defense Network (SLDN) has secured an historic Congressional hearing next week for a review of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) policy. Lifting the ban for gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military would be a huge step in the right direction to secure civil rights for all homosexuals. (DADT is the only law on the books in the United States that requires someone to be fired for being gay!) "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a law that has allowed the Pentagon to discharge more than 11,000 service members since it was implemented in 1994. It also targets women disproportionately. Women are approx. 15% of the military, but 30% of those discharged under this law. Twenty-four other nations allow open service for homosexuals and it works just fine. This is a civil rights issue and the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network needs your support. Aubrey Sarvis is the Executive Director of SLDN and his most recent post at Huffington Post is generating a lot of positive response on the popular social networking site Digg.com. This is a key time for his post in terms of it being read by the most people possible. If the post can attract more "diggs" (reader clicks that indicate a positive response) in the next couple hours, it will greatly increase the chances of it moving to the front page of Digg.com, where it will be seen by tens of thousands of new readers.
