A (R)evolutionary New Year!
| Weather permitting, New Year will kick off here on Earth with people coming together - to party and to watch fireworks and parades. Meanwhile up in the heavens there's an extra special 'coming together' of the planets to usher in 2011. Jupiter and Uranus are moving towards an astronomical conjunction in right ascension which 'perfects' (becomes precise) on January 2nd at 13.41 GMT. This is the third of three conjunctions - a triple conjunction - the first two occurred in 2010.
Between the years 1801 and 2010 Jupiter and Uranus will have been in conjunction 25 times, but there have been only five triple conjunctions during this same time span. The last triple was in 1983 and before that in 1968/9 so this is fairly rare.
On January 3rd the Moon changes signs, aligns with the planet of endings, Pluto, and heads towards an exact conjunction with the Sun. This syzygy happens every month but when there is an almost precise alignment of the Moon and Sun, as seen from Earth, a Partial Solar Eclipse will occur. This eclipse happens at 08.50 UT on 4th January and will be visible from all of Europe, northern Africa, the Middle East and central Asia. It will be swiftly followed by the conjunction in celestial longitude - i.e the astrological conjunction - of Jupiter and Uranus. The two are at 27.02 degrees of Pisces (square to the centre of our galaxy) between 10.10 GMT and 12.57 GMT but they become precise to the second of arc 27.02:28 at 12.53.04 GMT.
Solar Eclipses always speak of new beginnings and Jupiter/Uranus conjunctions are associated with magical synchronicities and occurrences which, even if they seem unwelcome, prove later to have silver linings. Jupiter and Uranus also have a correlation to (r)evolutionary occurrences - either in the psyche where we decide to 'overthrow the old regime' and make big changes, or out in the world where sweeping changes often affect Governments and political parties.
This (4th Jan) is definitely one of the most power packed days of the year and is the perfect time to consciously implement any changes you wish to make in your life. It is an excellent day to do your Vision Boards for 2011 and to mentally 'assume the feeling of the wishes fulfilled'. Where attention goes, energy flows!
Bear in mind though that wishes, intentions and resolutions are the energetic seeds and once planted they should be assisted to maximum fruition by careful nurturing. So if you dream of being slimmer, nurture that idea, and yourself, by making a change to your diet, joining a gym or taking more exercise. If your idea is to live abroad, book that flight to go check out possible locations or take a look at the places with which you have a positive astrological resonance. If you wish to move house but you just can't seem to find a buyer, start packing up a few things as if the move is underway. Whatever your desire, take some form of action to show your commitment and belief that change is coming: go for job interviews, join the dating site, make that phone call, start that website or business endeavour.
Do this on 3rd/4th January and you will have the power of right-timing behind you to assist your desires into concrete manifestation ( Sun square Saturn). Note the period around the 3rd April in your diary too, for in 90 days this is when you will either see the first truly visible results of what you began building towards/resolved to do at this time - or meet with the first realisations that you were never fully committed to your vision. If this proves to be the case you may need to look more deeply into where your beliefs might be keeping you stuck and then simply start again.

11.11
|  This number has been receiving widespread attention for a long time but never more so than in the last few years when people chattering on the Internet forums realised that the Winter Solstice of December 2012 - the so called end of the Mayan Calendar - will happen at 11:11.
Does this number have any astrological significance? Well, strictly speaking no, but working on the premise that there are no coincidences in life, and hot on the heels of my just writing about synchronicities, I suppose it is noteworthy that Uranus rules the 11th sector of the Zodiac and that Jupiter and Uranus will be in conjunction at 27.02 degrees of celestial longitude during 11:11GMT on 4th January.
On a deeper, esoteric level, this number speaks of balance and duality. It represents the twin pillars of Boaz and Jachin which support the Masonic Temple - in strength shall this house be established* - and these pillars are allied to the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. The 10 Sephiroth, 22 pathways and 3 columns are arranged with feminine forces on the left (The Pillar of Severity or Strength) and masculine on the right (The Pillar of Mercy or Wisdom) to denote male/female polarity. Perfect balance and integration is represented by the middle column in the tree (The Pillar of Balance or Beauty) and particularly in the middle sphere of the middle column at Tipereth, the Heart. The Masonic Temple is simply an allegory for the temple of the human body and the path to enlightenment - the building of the Temple speaks of the erection of a moral edifice.
*To enter the temple between the two pillars leads one on the path to 'birth beauty' i.e with wisdom and strength come a knowledge of the harmony and proportion of the Universe (House) which in turn gives you an understanding of how to know beauty and therefore joy which spreads Love. Thus we have wisdom to contrive, strength to support, and beauty to adorn all great and important undertakings.
 
In the image at the top however the two dots between the 11s would represent the heart. So in effect the symbolism of 11:11 is of a portal - a doorway - to heart energy which can only be found when one is in total balance. My guess is that the significance of the Jupiter Uranus cycle falling on the same day as a Solar eclipse (just after a Lunar eclipse fell on a solstice for the first time since 1703) will be the latest trigger to awaken people to the need to explore and understand more about polarity, duality, balance and synchronicity in their quest for meaning about the nature of life and love.

It is good for us all to be reminded from time to time that we don't have a life - we are life. There is a subtle but crucial difference. We have a time allotted to occupying our physical vehicle but the Universal laws tell us that energy can never be destroyed, only transformed. Our energetic being carries on - or more correctly I should say, it cycles on. Each of us is part of a 'Divine Design' - a pattern, unfolding in perpetual motion, called Creation.
So, if we accept this premise, can this information lead to a change in the way we live our life? Sadly the truthful answer is - probably not! I meet many people who, whilst they believe that death is not the end and also believe we are all part of some Grand Architect's plan, it is practical solutions as to how to deal with the here and now that most people are seeking. Quite right too. Who really cares if we might get an opportunity to do things better 'in the next lifetime.' It is what we do with this life that concerns us. Often the guilt or regret we carry with us when we feel that we have made an irrevocable decision, or if we feel we have wasted precious time, or are not fulfilling our potential, is a very real burden to bear.
What I know for sure however is that the vast majority of our woes come from losing sight of that permanent connection to a higher power and from failing to trust that this inborn guiding force knows what is best for us if we would only stop getting in its way or ignoring it - often under the guise of 'I'm just being practical/sensible'. Most of life's problems occur because we are constantly trying to control outcomes and we measure our life by a yardstick imposed by an ego-driven society rather than by the measure of our heart. For example, we say things because we feel it is the right thing to say - not because we mean them. We act in certain ways because ' that is what one does' or we act competitively because our skin encapsulated ego separates us into a belief that we have to look out for ourselves first.
We strive for things which have value to the ego but no intrinsic or lasting value - jeans or dresses with a 'label'; houses with the 'right' decor; jobs with more responsibility or more pay, as opposed to jobs which we have a real passion for. We marry people and then stay with them even when we no longer feel reciprocal love or respect - for to leave, society tells us, would cause too much 'damage' to the children or create financial issues, so we have affairs instead or suffer 'our lot'. What I can remind you of (because deep down you know this) is that the vast majority of our problems come from trying to keep the ego intact and from societal indoctrination, as opposed to living from a place of personal authenticity, congruency and truth. We live in fear of making more mistakes and compounding our guilt complexes or of being isolated or rejected. The amazing thing about life though is that when we get clear in our heart about what we want and then leave the details to this innate organising force about how it will all work out, it will never let us down and we can never make a mistake. The big problem is getting to that place of surrender and trust in a benign, supportive Universe.
Surrender to The River of Life
So, we cannot totally control and direct our life, all we can hope to do is guide ourselves away from obvious danger and surrender to the flow of Life's unfolding. We do this by aligning with the rhythms inherent in nature and by listening to the wisdom which is always whispering to us from the depths of our Soul as to what is the right thing to do. The 'proper' use of astrology is not about looking at alignments in the sky and saying 'Oh this planet is going to cause this or that to happen' the planets don't cause anything. Rather we are all unfolding in synchronisation with them. We are all part of the same 'flow'. As we are able to discern the pattern of planets in advance and look at what their cycles have coincided with before in history, we can utilise this information to see how best to consciously align with their rhythms and the peaks and troughs of the coming cycles. When we are harmonised with the planets we tend to experience more synchronicities (the word Syn means with and Chron is time so we are 'with time unfolding') and easier forward movement.
We can use this information on the personal level or world (mundane) level. For example the Internet was first rolled out in 1983 and correlates to the 14 year Jupiter/Uranus cycle. So to notice that we are again at the conjunction phase of this cycle, and a Solar eclipse on the same day, is to know that a new phase in the history of our Internet connectivity is about to emerge. What were you doing in mid 1983?
For all of us personally it is a time to begin something new (conjunctions); to find balance (Sun is Yang/active, Moon is Yin/passive) between heart and mind (intuition and reason) and to reach for philosophies, teachings and understandings about life (Jupiter cycles) that will awaken (Uranus cycles) us to our higher purpose. In this case it probably also denotes we need to lessen our dependence and reliance upon technology and find a healthier balance between 'human' and technological interaction!
Lightning bolts from the blue
Uranus cycles also have a correlation to electrical power and it is almost as if at these times we get plugged into a source energy that shakes or shocks us out of any lethargy (a big power cut or intermittent computer connection would certainly shake things up!) It is a time when we all feel an abnormal surge of energy - or witness actual abnormal energy out in Space (Solar storms?). For some people there will be a recognition that there is something they simply have to act on; some call from the soul that they have to answer and nothing will thwart them. This is the energy that sparks revolts when people feel their freedoms are being taken away (The Assange/Wikileaks case is springing to mind here) and want to wrestle back power. For others the energy may be more repressed in which case it will come at them - in the form of unusual or unexpected events or yearnings to revolutionize their life and evolve (with the revolutions of the planets!) Either way it is a time of action, new beginnings and a more Universal vision about the nature of life. The fact that the conjunction occurs in Pisces is a sure sign that many of us need to divorce ourselves from the past and move on. Some will even make a sudden clean break with something that has been in their life for 14, 28, 42, 56 or 70 years.

As a final aside on this subject - airlines, air travel, freak weather and stories about the Pope or religious rebellions often surface at Jupiter/Uranus conjunctions. Old texts say is coincides with financial reforms and revisions, reconstruction of stocks and new share issues.
