Giving Thanks!

I am enjoying Summer, reflecting on what a tremendous year I've had teaching, performing, and spreading the Power of Rhythm.  In the spirit of Gratitude, I have decided to offer two FREE drum/percussion programs for my beloved world rhythm and culture community:

1)  Djembe Tuning and All Student Jam!
2)  Play Pandeiro Now!
Details below.

Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour has been one of my favorite African performers for many years, and I am excited to announce an intriguing and inspirational new film exploring his life, music, and, in particular, his controversial 2005 album "EGYPT".  Details below.

Finally, can you help Total Rhythm find a NEW HOME?!?!?!?  My "wish list" listed below.  Thank you.

P.S.  New Small Group Adult Drumming Classes start October, 2009!  Registration begins early September.  Keep checking these eNewsletters!

With Many Thanks for Your Support,

Two FREE Drum/Percussion Programs!

Djembe Tuning / All Student Jam +
Free Pandeiro Class

Spring, 2009 drumming classes ended one month ago and, (no offense to anyone) I have thoroughly enjoyed my break from teaching!
The break has given me a chance to reflect on how GRATEFUL I am to have such dedicated, dynamic and interesting students.
I finished Spring quarter with more students than ever, more programs than ever, offering a wider range of instruction in more percussion instruments and rhythm traditions than ever before.

All of YOU are helping to support my continued vision of a World Percussion Academy right here in Oakland, CA!

THANK YOU FOR HELPING THIS DREAM COME ALIVE!

Now, let's JAM!
I am offering TWO FREE Drum/Percussion programs for all!
(Note: these programs are NOT listed on TotalRhythm.com so please spread the word by cutting and pasting this email.  ALL WELCOME.)

"I Bring What I Love"

Fascinating Documentary sheds Light on Muslim West Africa

Along with Miriam Makeba, Franco, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Baba Maal, Youssou N'Dour has been one of the seminal African musicians in my musical history.  I remember hearing his incomparably beautiful and soulful vocals on Peter Gabriel's SO album in 1985, and I was hooked!

Over twenty years later, he's still creating mesmerizing music.  His 2005 album "Egypt" bridges the Muslim-inspired musics of Senegal (his homeland) and Egypt.  A fabulous fusion album, it received international accolades yet was initially rejected in his homeland.

WHY?
You'll find out in the exciting new film
I BRING WHAT I LOVE, which sheds a rare insight into the fascinating and often-misunderstood world of Moslem West Africa.

Watch the Youssou N'Dour Film Trailer HERE.

I saw the film last weekend in Oakland, CA, and left the theater informed and inspired!
Please check the website for a complete list of screening locations, hopefully near you.

ENJOY!
