An all day, outdoor Drum Jam by the Sea
I've reserved a beautiful picnic spot in Alameda, right on the beach. We've got music and alcohol permits. Let's do it!!
(If you need any inspiration, I've included a nice clip of one of my
favorite drum bands of all time: Timbalada from Bahia, Brazil, led by
the incomparable Carlinhos Brown.)

Hello Drummers! We're takin' it outdoors! Please bring your drum (or
other percussion instrument) and join me for a ALL-DAY JAM at the beach!
I've reserved a beautiful picnic area called "Mariner's Lagoon" at
Crown Memorial Beach in Alameda (commonly known as Crab Cove). I have a
permit for acoustic music and an alcohol license so let's woop it up!!!
We'll be playing W. African, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian rhythms and we'll have plenty of JAMMING. This is a drum-community event and EVERYONE is invited. My goal is to
have 50 DRUMS AT THE BEACH and bring great people together for a day
of music, BBQ, laughter and lots of rhythm!!!
Please bring food and/or drink to share for the potluck. We'll have a
BBQ going all afternoon. Your friends, sig o's, kids, parents,
hangers-on....ALL ARE
INVITED. EVERYONE. Bring frisbees, badminton, volleyballs,
footballs, bathing suits, and LOTS OF DRUMS. At least 50!

DIRECTIONS:
Go through the Webster St. Tube from Oakland
Take Webster St. until the very end.
Turn right on Central
Make first left onto McKay
Take McKay until it ends (only 2 blocks)
Park! (Or you can pay $5 and park in the Crab Cove lot)
Walk about 100 yards to the left (south) along the beach
You're there! "Mariner's Lagoon" picnic site.

Percussion "TIMBALADA
Style!"
I am a HUGE fan of Brazil's Carlinhos Brown, percussionist, singer, songwriter, community activist. His albums regularly grace my "best of" lists.
He also leads a 300-person strong drum group called "Timbalada", named after the "Timbau" drum which Carlinhos helped to popularize.
Timbalada is one of the most exciting percussion groups on the planet and their albums "Timbalada" and "Cada Cabeza & Um Mundo" are highly recommended.
Note: these albums are NOT available on iTunes but you can find them at most Rasputins and Amoeba record stores.
