World Rhythms Crew:
We had a GREAT TIME at Carnaval last weekend in SF! The weather turned hot and sunny and it was a fantastic day! See photo below. (That's me in the red hat with my Carnaval friend Louise and my green-haired brother in rhythm, Jimbo.)
Good news: The hand-made "Zazinho" pandeiros from Rio have arrived!! I have NINE left. They are superlight, natural goat-skin head, with a beautiful warm tone. Details below.
I'll be travelling a lot this summer, spreading my message of the Power of Rhythm to Cazadero (Kosmos Camp, THIS WEEKEND!), Los Angeles (see below), and Boston. (i'm also taking my kids to Disneyland this summer!)

Pandeiros Have Arrived From Brazil!

These are beautiful, light-weight, choro-style pandeiros made by respected instrument maker Zazinho in Rio de Janeiro.
These are 10" pandeiros and are NOT manufactured commercially. They are MUCH LIGHTER than mass-produced pandeiros and the jingles ("platinelas") are tight for a controlled, precise tone. The natural goat-skin head is easy on the hands and fingers and gives a warm, rich tone.
THEY SOUND GREAT!

MUST-SEE DRUM FILMS!!
I have 2 Recommendations for you:
1) "War Dance"
Academy-Award Nominee for Best Documentary, this AMAZING film depicts the lives of children impacted, and sometimes orphaned, by Northern Uganda's civil war, and how they use the POWER OF MUSIC & DANCE to uplift themselves and their community.
It is breathtakingly beautiful.

2) "The Visitor"
Although I don't think this movie is Academy Award material, it provides an insightful and personal look at our immigration policies. The film's portrayal of the Power of the Drum to bring harmony across cross cultural barriers is excellent!
