My brother in rhythm, Jim SpinCycle Sowers (pictured above), is throwing it down on Friday night, May 23, in Oakland, CA. Jim is a fantastic DJ spinning a unique mix of world rhythms: Soukous, Samba, Funk, Merengue, More! (WARNING: Be prepared to sweat.)
In addition to a great Carnaval party, this is a benefit to raise money to support Team Yam Power, who are riding 500+ miles across Nova Scotia ON UNICYCLES!

SUNDAY CARNAVAL PARADE!The largest street party in California is happeing THIS SUNDAY, May 25, from 10am - 5:30pm in San Francisco's Mission District. Literally thousands of drummers & dancers will fill the streets for an open-air celebration of rhythm, culture and expression!!! AND IT's COMPLETELY FREE!!!Here are the details: Carnaval 2008 InformationThe main event is a Parade down Mission Street. My good friend Louise Joanes is working with a group called the Urban Aboriginals and they are presenting "Dreamtime", a colorful celebration of the aboriginal spirit in us all. Pedal-powered and peace-loving, this group brings the shiny Spirit of Carnaval to all. Dreamtime is group # 63, and YOU CAN JOIN THEM! Bring your drum and wear black with flourescent colors (think bright, Bolivian costumes). Meet up with Dreamtime and share the spirit as you parade down Mission Street!!
