Inspired Artist:
Carlinhos Brown from Brazil
One of my all-time musical heroes, Carlinhos Brown blends samba, funk, rock and heavy percussion into one of the most creative, persuasive and powerful sounds on the planet.
All of his albums are excellent but for starters I recommend "Omelete Man". Available for $7 at amazon.com

Tell me how you like it. Enjoy! |

From downtown Oakland:
Take 580 East Exit 35th Ave. Go left onto 35th Ave. towards the hills (You'll pass by Jordan Rd. where I live, and cross over Rt. 13) At the very, very top of the hill, go left on Skyline Blvd. At the first light, turn Rt. onto Skyline (yes, it's still called Skyline Blvd.) Pass the sign for "Roberts Park" on your right. Park at the lot on the right immediately past the sign "Sequoia Arena" which will be on your left. Park deep in the lot. (If you go to the Chabot Space and Science lot you've gone about 25 yards too far.) Follow the "Redwood Bowl" and "West Ridge Trail" signs up the paved path, stay on path as it turns left. At the "Redwood Bowl" sign, take the path down the small, gentle slope to the clearing. Turn Right and walk about 50 yards to the "Anna Costa" picnic area. You're there!

RHYTHM KIDS!

In this brand-new section I will highlight some interesting activities for kids and those who love them. Oakland's Dimond Park and Peralta Creek: Hidden Gems
Hey (fellow) parents: When was the last time you splashed in a creek with your kids? Dimond Park is located off MacArthur Blvd. at Fruitvale in Oakland. Here are three reasons why my daughters and I love it: 1) Play Structure Options: Three play structures, one for wee little kids, another for 3-5 yr. olds, and the third for big kids like Liberty (my 8 yr. old). All within easy walking distance of each other. 2) Peralta Creek! This natural watershed creek flows right through the park. Great for splashing, making stick-canoes, looking for water insects, etc... 3) The trail. If you follow Peralta Creek straight back into the hills you'll find a lovely half-mile hiking trail (ok for strollers). Very beautiful - a real urban getwaway. ENJOY! Directions to: Dimond Park
