Hello Friends:
I'm back from teaching at the California Brazil Camp at Cazadero, CA. It was fantastic - world-class musicians, dancers, and performers all living together for a week sharing their talents under 200 foot redwood trees! I am truly blessed to be living this wonderful life.
The feature article gives some insight into the Braziian Flag (always one of my favorite). Also, remember that Small Group Adult Drumming Classes start in only three weeks. Plus, Samba in LA, End of Summer BBQ, more.....

(Brief) Report from California Brazil Camp 2007
|
Here is a photo of me with Jovino Santos Neto, one of the many fabulous musicians teaching at the California Brazil Camp at Cazedero. Jovino has a daring and playful energy and truly believes in the power of music to energize and transform. A former collaborator with the great Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal, he appeared on Sergio Mendez's classic, Grammy-winning album Brasileiro and just released his new CD: Roda Carioca. Mutio axe Jovino! (P.S. Did you notice that we are both wearing "Portela" shirts?!) Talented instructors like Jovino are what makes California Brazil Camp so special. They share the warmth, sincerity, and passion for their music with an open heart and seem to enjoy the week-long immersion-type atmosphere at camp. The Camp offers instruction in guitar, voice, percussion, accordion, dance, piano, Portuguese language, and much more. I love seeing familiar faces and the quality of the music and dance is phenomenal. Here is a link to California Brazil Camp, you may want to mark your calendars for next year! Cal Brazil Camp |

Brazil's flag is a deep green banner with a yellow
diamond enclosing a night-blue, star-studded Southern Hemisphere sky.
The sky depicts 27 white, five-pointed stars (one for each state in Brazil and
the Federal District); the stars are arranged in the pattern of the
night sky over Rio de Janeiro on November 15, 1889 (this is the date
when the last Emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro II, was deposed, and the
republic was proclaimed).
The stars in view include the constellations Southern Cross (also called Crux), Scorpius, Canis Major Poruguese, and others.
A banner across the sky reads, "ORDEM E PROGRESSO," which means "order and progress" in Portuguese (the national language of Brazil).
