CSA64 Demonstrates Sewer Pipeline Smoke Test for SVL Residents
Communities across the US are working to find cost-effective, long-term approaches to managing their aging wastewater infrastructure by implementing a cost effective preventive maintenance program. These programs are designed to eliminate problems before they can occur. The Smoke Testing Program is one such tool.

Smoke Testing is one technique utilized to identify sections of sewers which may exhibit inflow during heavy rainfall. This in turn can cause sewer rates to increase.

Smoke Testing is best used to detct inflow sources such as roof leaders, yard and area drains, foundation drains, abandoned building sewers, faulty connections, illegal connections and storm water drainage system cross connections. It can also detect structural damages and leaking joints in sewer pipes and overflow points in sewer systems.

Prior to beginning the smoke testing in our community, CSA64 will place door hangers on the front door of every home and business. Any questions or comments can be directed to:
CSA64 Water & Sanitation Division: 800-554-0656 or 760-955-9885

Operations would like to warn residents to make sure all sink, bathtub, and shower drain traps are full of water. If you have infrequently used plubming fixtures and you do not run water in them before the testing, there is a chance you could get smoke coming out of your drains and into the house.
