2010 ASSOCIATION SUMMER UPDATE

Family Festival 2010

The Association is proud to report that the fifth annual Family Festival was a smashing success without major incident.  The carnival held at Meadowlark Park (Community Building) drew more than 600 members of which 270 were children. They were able to watch a Professional BMX bike exposition and were able to participate in several of the attractions on hand. The SVL Lions club provided the food service - Burger, Hotdogs, etc., the food was wonderful. Above that, the Lions donated a portion of their profits to the Association.

The Fireworks and the party at the Beach - This year we had five Sheriff Deputies, our entire Public Safety Department, the Citizens on Patrol, and Fire Station 22 engines at both beaches.  Active and thorough ID checks were performed at each gate. This year there was only one arrest... (Click here for more details)

The Lake

The Association completed both rounds of Aluminum Sulfate treatments ahead of schedule and on budget. These treatments stripped the Nitrates and Phosphates from the lake water which allowed algae to thrive in the lake. The secondary benefit of the Aluminum Sulfate treatments is to remove some of the suspended solids that cloud the water. Maintenance department will also be installing several aeration systems on the lake bottom to enhance the health of the lake and improve clarity.  We are also installing aeration nozzles on the wells in the fingers to enhance those water bodies.

Budget

Ken Bodle, Don Haney and I have the reserve and capital funds in order in preparation for the budget. The dates of the Budget Committee meetings have not been scheduled as of this time.

Code Enforcement - "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO...?"

Spring Valley Lake Association is governed by the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&R's). This document outlines the contractual relationship between ALL residents and the Association. We now have four Code Enforcement Officers who will be going tract by tract to proactively provide education to residents that have violations.

If you need a copy of the four documents (CC&R's, Bylaws, Arch Manual, Rules) you can buy a set at the office, or download them free from our website - www.svla.com.

Please have a Safe and Enjoyable Summer.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jon Sabo, General Manager

Did You Feel It?

On Wednesday, July 7, 2010, Spring Valley Lake residents may have felt the 5.4 earthquake that struck Borrego Springs just before 5 p.m.   The rolling movement and tremors may have caused many of us to think..."Is this the BIG ONE?" It wasn't this time, but don't let yourself be caught unprepared when the BIG ONE does occur.

Earthquakes can strike at any time and it is always wise to have an Emergency Supplies Kit, a Family Disaster Plan, and keep a supply of food and water for at least three days and ideally two weeks or more. More information on building these preparedness items can be found at www.sbcfire.org/oes and clicking on the Disaster Preparedness link. To learn even more about preparedness, join millions of other Californians in participating in The Great California ShakeOut. This year's ShakeOut occurs at 10:21 a.m. on Oct. 21. Register yourself, your family, and your business at www.shakeout.org.
