Victor Valley College Solar Project
On Friday, January 29, 2010, Dr. Bob Silverman (President) and Don Nelson (Trustee) of the Victor Valley College hosted a meeting with SVL's Operations Manager and I, to discuss the College's upcoming solar generating installation, east of the Fish Hatchery and South of Pinehurst and Arrowhead. The installation will be on approximately eight acres of the college's land. The solar collectors will pan with the movement of the sun. We asked Dr. Silverman and Al McQuilken of GKK Works, the project manager, if the collectors would cause any light reflections into Spring Valley Lake. We were told there would be no light reflection. Construction should begin within the next several months. Should any resident have any specific questions regarding this project, please contact the Office of the President of the Victor Valley College at (760) 245-4271.
Lake Stocking
Weather permitting; the Association will be stocking 2500 lbs of trout on Monday, February 1, 2010.
Respectfully yours,
Jon Sabo

Public Safety
Boat owners, it's that time of year, once again, to get your vessel, personal watercraft (PWC), paddle boat, kayak, sail boat etc. registered with the Spring Valley Lake Association. If your vessel is on the water, the only grace period that will be honored will be the entire month of January 2010. If you do not plan on registering your vessel this year, you must have it out of the water no later than January 31, 2010. If your unregistered vessel, PWC, or non-powered vessel is caught on the water after January 31, 2010, you will be cited for an unregistered vessel in which the fine is $200.00; and you may also receive a citation for an illegal launch which is a fine of $100.00.
Remember, you must also have a Vessel Operators Permit (VOP) with you at all times while operating your vessel. To obtain a VOP, you can take your boat test at the Community Building on Rolling Ridge, seven days a week at 9:00 a.m. (Study section 5 of your SVLA Rules and Regulations). Be sure to have your SVLA Membership card and your Drivers license with you at the time of testing.
If you have any questions, please call the Public Safety Department at 760-245-6400 for a vessel inspection and a boat test. If you have questions on your SVLA boat registration, please call the Association Office at 760-245-9756. When you take the boat test or get a vessel inspection, the Officer will hand you a list of items you will need to complete your SVLA boat registration. You can also pick up this list at the Association Office or at the Public Safety Dispatch Office. Please register your vessels early and don't wait for the Memorial Day Weekend rush.

San Bernardino County News
San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, Division of (DEHS) advises area residents living in areas without electrical service to be safe when cooking and heating your homes. Generators, grills, camp stoves, or other gasoline, propane, natural gas or charcoal-burning devices should never be used inside a home, basement, garage, camper, or even outside near an open window.
When power outages occur during emergencies such as winter storms, the use of alternative sources of fuel or electricity for heating, or cooking can cause carbon monoxide to build up inside a living area which can poison the people and animals inside.
DEHS also advises residents to throw away food that may not be safe to eat. Throw away food that may have come in contact with flood or storm water. Also, do not eat perishable foods such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs and leftovers that have been above 41°F for over 2 hours. Thawed foods that contain ice crystals, or are 41°F or below, can be refrozen or cooked. Food containers with screw-caps, and home canned foods should be discarded if they have come in contact with floodwater because they cannot be disinfected. Cans which have come in contact with flood or storm water can be disinfected by removing the label, washing the can and dipping in a solution of 1-cup bleach to 5 gallons of water. Do not use contaminated water to wash dishes, brush your teeth, wash and prepare food, wash your hands, make ice, or make baby formula. For more information on safe food handling practices, contact the San Bernardino County Public Health, Environmental Health Services division at (909) 884-4056 or visit the website at: www.sbcounty.gov/dehs. |
From San Bernardino County Regional Parks - Junior Fishing Workshops
"Children benefit from outdoor activity," said Interim Regional Parks Director, Maureen Snelgrove. "The workshops were initiated last year and we offered three workshops to children ages five through nine. The response was so strong we have increased the eligibility age as well as the number of workshops we are presenting this year. In getting our youth enthusiastic about fishing, we will hopefully develop their interest in the sport and keep them coming to fish in our parks."
Junior Fishing Workshop Schedule:
February 13, 2010 - Mojave Narrow, Victorville
March 6, 2010 - Yucaipa, Yucaipa
